Boring!!!
| I watched quite a few korean dramas now, but this one takes the cake for its draggy, slow talking, slow walking, slow moving, slow everything. even the fast forwarding was slow in my eyes. I bought this drama thinking it be all good but man did it hurt my feelings. Poor character development, and there didnt seem to be a great connection between Ji Eun and Sae Hoon. If I were ever to stop watching korean dramas, it would be because of this one. It is not worthy of a buy, save your money and get some other drama. |

FOR THE BIRDS
| JI EUN AT FIRST WAS VERY FLIRTY, TALKATIVE, AND SO MUCH IN LOVE WITH SAE HOON. SHE EVEN GOT HERSELF PREGNANT JUST SO SHE COULD MARRY SAE HOON. HOWEVER, BECAUSE SAE HOON DIDN'T WANT TO BE DEPENDENT ON HER PARENTS, SHE THREW A TANTRUM WHICH RESULTED IN HER MISCARRIAGE. THIS PORTRAYED HER AS BEING MORE MATERIALISTIC THAN SENSIBLE. TEN YEARS LATER, SHE'S A DEMURE, SOFT SPOKEN AND CONFUSED WOMAN WHO WERE FACED WITH A LOT OF CHALLENGES, BUT STILL DIDN'T SEEM TO HAVE ENOUGH BACKBONE TO EXPRESS HER TRUE FEELINGS TO SAE HOON. INSTEAD, SHE TURNS TO HER FATHER'S KILLER'S SON WHO SEEMED HOPELESSLY OBSSESSED WITH HER. THIS DIDN'T MAKE ANY SENSE BECAUSE BEING A YOUNG MAN OF PRIVELEGE, HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN ANY WOMAN HE WANTED. SHE WAS NOT PORTRAYED AS ANYONE SPEICAL. I COULD SEE IF SHE WAS LIKE HERSELF IN THE BEGINNING--FLIRTY, CONFIDENT, AND FULL OF SPUNK. ONE COULD NOT RELATE TO THIS MOVIE AS IT WAS OBVIOUSLY PURELY FICTITIOUS. I'M GLAD, HOWEVER, THAT SHE ENDED UP WITH HER FIRST LOVE, SAE HOON, WHO WAS DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS AND COULD BE CONSIDERED A KING IN HIS OWN RIGHT. |

great acting
| I like this series very much, not only the actors / actress are such find act. It also let me watch it because it's such sad to know Lee EunJoo comitted sucide so sudden and died so young. The story line is very simple korean love series but telling people love will last forever no matter it go thru all difficult time. Highly recommend and good to keep. |

Horrible
|
I have seen dozens of K-dramas over the years and I believe "Bul-sae" or Phoenix is the WORST one I have seen for the following reasons: 1) Poor character development. The two main characters marry and divorce in less than 2 episodes. Hard for the audience to feel any emphathy toward them when the characters barely has time to fall in love with each other and share memories. 2) None of the three main characters were likable. Lee Eun-Joo was fantastic in "Tae-guk-gi" while Lee Seo-Jin was great in "Damo," but they really stunk in this drama. They were just drabby, depressing characters even when they were supposed to be happy (in the beginning). Eric Mun is a horrible actor...with his fake mustach, he just looks dirty and stupid and his lines were just ridiculously dumb (gotta blame the writers for that but his delivery was just as bad). 3) Unbelievable situations/circumstances in the drama made this one hard to watch and enjoy. For example, are we really supposed to believe the scenario of a group of American business men, the mergers and acquisition team, select Lee Eun-Joo to head the transition when she is working as a maid and never finished a degree in fashion design!? Don't waste your money and time on this one. Instead, I would highly recommend the following three much, much better K-dramas: 1) Dae-Jang-Geum (The Jewel in Palace) 2) My Loverly Sam-Soon 3) Damo |

This was a great drama its a have to see
| i thought that this drama gave a great impact on me i loved it so much firebird was a very sad but romantic drama it made me cry so much when things didn`t work out with sae hoon and ji un they loved each other so much they were afraid to tell each other 13 years past by and they haven`t said a word to each other and then finally they are happy together i loved this drama so much i wish that it would never end! i`am going to buy it soon. no one can say this drama is boring! and let the character of ji-un rest in peace (she commited suicide and let her rest in peace!) well all characters in this K-drama are good people definitly have to watch it. this is my 2nd k-drama i have watch as you wish which was also a great drama and now i`am watching First love of royal prince which is also a k-drama. Both guy character such as sae hoon and jun-min were awsome they were the hotties of the whole drama! you should really buy this for all romance lovers! |

Absolutely a MUST SEE!!
| I am a non-Asian American with no pre-existing idea of present day Korean culture. It has been a facinating journey into the Korean thinking process about life and love - how it is so different from the US but yet the same in the heart. Phoenix is my third K-drama and by far the absolute best of all. It pulled me in first by the characters Sea Hoon and Ji Eun. Their love for each other was so full but forbidden by parental authority. Then the story line really took over and other characters began to complicate and worm their way right into my heart, specifically Eric Mun as Jung Min. He really got to me because of his desperate love for Ji Eun which came out so amazingly through his eyes. I felt many times I would be happy no matter which guy got the girl because they both loved her more than themselves and they each were fantastic men in their own way, flaws and all. This story and all the actors were awesome including Mi Ran played by Jung Hye Yung. She made me hate her and pity her all at the same time. I learned a lot from this series and at the same time, it brought back memories of passion and its anticipation. Phoenix is an amazing story. |
