one of the best 2004 Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Phoenix is one of the BEST SURPRISES of 2004. It is interesting, exciting, PAINFULLY SAD..just fell in love with the cast especially Lee Eun Joo's performance. Her crying is so natural it breaks my heart! I don't think her character is weak at all:what she is, is a woman torn by GUILT and sorrow. Lee Seo Jin is a man also torn by his principles and love- he plays it to perfection! Eric Mun with his bad boy looks gives an excellent performance as the other man vying for the girl. Everyone hates Mi Ran's 'fatal attraction' character which goes to show how good the actress is! And the OST is simply WOW!!. Give this drama a try and you won't be disappointed. Despite some flaws, it will keep you glued to your seat. No wonder it topped the ratings in Korea! At first I was rather sceptical( having never heard of any of the actors' names and afraid of another formulaic drama )but soon my fears were (happily)dispelled. This drama (like DAE JANG GEUM) has made me believe in KOrean dramas again. As a Korean Drama addict I have high hopes that Korea will give us more gems like JANG GEUM, DAMO , SASSY GIRL CHUN HYANG ,FULL HOUSE and PHOENIX.

A New Addition to My Favorites Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
A “phoenix” is an Egyptian myth of firebird that lives in the desert. When this firebird dies, it is later reborn from its own ashes (as seen in Harry Potter 2)... This is the metaphor that the drama series was based on. The audience does not get thrown into a surreal plot about someone falling in love with their lost brother or sister, two organ donors falling in love, people getting into car accidents and losing their memory, 24-7 nonstop teary characters, or a sad death of a lover with terminal cancer at the beach… You do not get to see two childhood protagonists going to elementary school, being picked on by bullies, or any scenes when the boy carries the girl on his back…
So what is it that makes this series so GREAT if all of the usual ingredients of a Korean drama recipe are absent? Phoenix surpassed my expectations of Korean drama series. Yes, you may think, 26 episodes—it must be too draggy and slow. However, Phoenix is an excellent portrayal or reality—it reminds us that REALITY BITES! I particularly liked this series because it captures the essence of reality. It is a portrayal of the different types and degrees of LOVE: conditional, unconditional, passionate, commitment, intimacy, and so forth…
Sound’s confusing, but it boils down to a love square. However, this series portrays many issues like moving on, unresolved business, determination, forgiveness of others and yourself, obession, motivation, grudges, jealously, making ends meet, ignorance and arrogance, and many more… I actually have more things to relate to this series than any other top Korean Dramas because everything is so real (unlike fantasies like Story of Autumn, Stairway to Heaven, Beautiful Days, Winter Love, etc…not saying that they’re not good, just don't feel “real” in some ways).
I was very satisfied with the cast, character development, the plot, and the ending… I was so suprised by Eric Mun's performance, he did a really great job, especially with that charsmatic fire of jealously in his eyes (melts my heart. My favorite character was Ji Eun (played by Lee Eun Joo) because she is not weak and fragile. Lee Seo Jin was awesome with his captivating voice and solid skills, you MUST see him in Damo too! This series is definitely added to my list of favorites!!! The soundtrack is very good too, I definitely recommend people to buy it.

Phoenix Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
uhm I think it's a great movie so far. I haven't finished watching it....It's kind of sad. Eric Mun was fantastic. He did a great job. I really like his character.IS there anybody here know the ending of this movie. Can you tell me please? I really want Ji Eun( Lee Eun Joo) to be couple with Jung Min( Eric Mun), but I guess the ending will not be like that.
Anywayz, you shod see this movie. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Amazing Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Phoenix is amazing. The different types of love, hate, and agony displayed by the characters were very realistic. Besides Miran’s mental breakdown, Phoenix incredibly mirrored the real life difficulties of separation and trying to move on with one's life. Phoenix is certainly no repeat of “Winter Sonata”, “Love Letter”, or other traditional dramas. It completely surpassed my expectations. Wonderful performances by Lee Eun Joo, Lee Seo Jin, Eric, and Jung Hye Young.

A drama with a good start with a so-so ending Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Like other K-drama's, firebird had A LOT of potential when it was first released on tape for the Korean public to see. A tragic story of love and lost, with a bit of romance and comedy. Yet, the fire, that was firebird pretty much exhausted as MBC decided to drag out the story between these couples from the orginally planned 20 or so episodes, to 26 episodes in its final airing. If you enjoy Lee Eun-Joo you will not be disappointed, this is one of the best performances she gives for the small-screen. I have to agree with many others that Eric Mun (Shinhwa) does a pretty decent acting job here as well. If you liked Love in Paris, I would say this is the drama for you, but if your a first timer to K-dramas, there are a number of better titles for you to start with than this one. Although good, it will never live up to such titles as Winter Sonata, Love Letter, or A Star in My Heart.
