In Police Cadet '85, the group of cop rookies finally graduates to active duty - and immediately face a whole new set of problems. Love and duty are just two of the factors in the rich and complex storylines of the Police Cadet series. Promising young doctor Zhang Jing-Cheng (Chow Yun Fat) wanted to practice medicine in Hong Kong, but thanks to his own mistakes and the vagaries of fate, Zhang gains a criminal record and jeopardizes his future. Meanwhile, Superintendent Han Bin (Simon Yam Tat) woos Jing-Cheng's girlfriend, setting up a showdown between the policeman and the fallen doctor. Han Bin is also the archenemy of Zhang Wen-Jie (Tony Leung), but Wen-Jie has his own problems. Wen-Jie marries the character played by Margie Tsang…but their newlywed bliss encounters difficulties when another woman comes into the picture!

With a galaxy of stars and a phenomenal theme song, Set Sail With Me by Little Tiger, Police Cadet '85 was a massive hit during its release, and is still talked about by Chinese television fans even today!

　　倪峰（劉青雲）入獄，因不願拖累張嘉汶（劉嘉玲）而要求離婚。汶內心痛苦，但為了讓峰安心，只好協議分開。張偉杰（梁朝偉）與謝穎之分手後，仍對她念念不忘。杰叔父張竟成（周潤發）由內地來港，投靠張家，與杰成為莫逆。

　　成在內地為醫生，欲考取英聯邦醫生執照以便在港執業，但他因行使偽鈔而留有案底，喪失了考試資格。成最後鋌而走險，偷運水貨。成認識了女友巧楠（戚美珍），卻又被杰之對頭督察韓杉（任達華）橫刀奪愛。楠之妹巧宜（曾華倩）考入了警校，認識了杰，並結為夫婦。二人婚後磨擦漸多，杰更與宜之好友吳欣發生了一段婚外情。後欣被殺，宜牽涉入內，杰從旁安慰。後事件水落石出，杰、宜更珍惜他倆的關係。杰的事業漸見起色，回顧以往日子，唏噓之餘亦感欣慰。
