In the golden days of Hong Kong cinema, Richard Ng and John Sham formed an inimitable comedy duo who starred in several spin-off comedies from the blockbuster Five Lucky Stars series. The first of these films, 1984's Pom Pom, was such an enormous hit that it resulted in the duo's three more outings, precisely in The Return of Pom Pom in the same year, then Mr. Boo Meets Pom Pom the following year, and Pom Pom Strikes Back! two years after the original.
In the final chapter of the Pom Pom series, Ng and Sham are back to reprise their beloved roles as bumbling anti-triad detectives Ah Chau and Beethoven respectively, alongside acclaimed actress Deanie Ip as Chau's wife Anna. This time, the buddy cops are assigned the duty to protect an important witness (played by '80s teen idol May Lo) from the hitmen sent to silence her for good. Meanwhile, a computer failure has resulted in Chau mistakenly thinking he's got a terminal illness.

貝多芬(岑建勳飾)與吳阿秋(吳耀漢飾)這兩個精煉幹探，不單只是工作上的好拍檔，二人更視對方為知己良朋。秋與芬奉命保護重要證人羅美美(羅美薇飾)，但美美天性好動，不喜被貼身保護，遂設計逃走，引來追殺危機，秋更為保護美美而受傷進院。秋以為自己身患絕症，遂奮不顧身，保護芬與美美，擊退殺手。後秋得知「絕症」只不過是電腦失靈所造成的誤會，如釋重負，決定將計就計，繼續瞞騙芬與妻子Annie(葉德嫻飾)。「絕症」計果得逞，連事業心甚重的Annie亦決定辭職，陪秋往夏威夷渡假。秋起程之日，正是芬將美美護送往法院的日子，殺手有備而來，秋只得與芬合力對付殺手，將美美安全送往法庭。同時，Annie已得知「絕症」真相，假期頓成泡影，秋慨嘆聰明反被聰明誤。
Two detectives, John (John Sham) and Richard (Richard Ng) are good friend and partner. They involve in the job of protecting a very vital witness, who is a pretty young girl, May (May Lo). May's curiosity and nosy character has irritated Richard tremendously. Meanwhile, Richard's wife, Deanie (Deanie Ip) is coming back to Hong Kong. Amidst the tension and adventure, John mistakes that Richard is dying of cancer, this eventually results in a series of hilarious situations and at the end Richard realizes the reason behind the fuss, but he decides to take advantage of John's misunderstanding.
