From director Ging Hoi Lam (a.k.a. Chin Hai Lin) comes Pure and The Evil, a darkly cynical tale of two very different women! Released in 1982, the film centers on the evolving relationship between two longtime girlfriends, Rose (Chen Pei Hsi, from Teenage Dreamers) and May (Dai Liang Chung, from Passing Flickers and One Way Only). Although the two differ widely in terms of their family background and even their personalities, Rose and May quickly became best friends in high school.

While Rose is the poorer of the two and has to stay in a crummy little apartment with her sister, May lives in the lap of luxury, as the daughter of a wealthy family. May is shy and unassuming, yet Rose is a veritable spitfire - sexy, wild, and more than willing to live a little dangerously. Frustrated by her lot in life, Rose declares to her friend that someday she'll make something of herself and live the high life she's always dreamed of! And so, when May leaves for Canada with her family, Rose embarks on her quest for fame and fortune. But soon, it becomes abundantly clear that Rose will stop at nothing to achieve her aims! Beginning as a club hostess, Rose later becomes a model and even goes on to win a prestigious beauty contest. By fabricating her past, Rose constructs a new identity for herself to gain acceptance among the rich and famous, slowly working her way up the social ladder - but at what price?

Later, May returns from Canada, and the two long-lost pals instantly resume their friendship. 　　The Pure and The Evil begins with two teen girls who are inseparable but ends like Fatal Attraction where guttered sexuality leads to insanity. Rose and Fang were from opposite ends of the spectrum, but were close. The refined Fang moves to America but returns years later to see her old buddy Rose who immediately takes an eye to her fiance. Things quickly digress into erotic deterio-ration as Rose's thorns begin to stick in Fang's and her fiance's sides.
