YesAsia Editorial Description

In the beginning, there was Bi; soon Bi became Rain. It's hard to believe that Rain, now an international superstar, once had a humble beginning. Following the success of g.o.d. and Park Ji Yoon, producer Park Jin Young pulled out yet another ace card with Rain. This young vibrant singer had been waiting in the wings behind the walls of JYP Entertainment for nearly two years. Rain released his debut album Bad Guy in May of 2002. It was only a matter of time 'til the world took notice of this newcomer who would become one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People.

Bad Guy (Track 3), the first smash hit for Rain, takes off with a voice narration followed by heavy R&B-style hip-hop rhythm. Written and composed by Park Jin Young, the song brings forth a powerful blend of Rain's masculinity punctuated by heavy, coarse breathing and heart-piercing sentiments heard through a woman's weeping sound. What's Love (Track 11) is a gift from Rain's close friend, Danny of g.o.d. It features Lexy's vocals and the groovy beats, typical of a hip-hop sound. In addition, Bada of S.E.S. lends her voice in a duet number Neucheureum ("Like You") (Track 8) which features the urban soul style of fluctuating rhythms. Other noteworthy tracks include Lee Ki Chan's signature-style ballad Iksookchi Ahnahsuh ("Can't Get Used To It") (Track 5), medium R&B number Arksoo ("Handshake") (Track 2), and a funky rendition Nah ("Me") (Track 4).

Rain's Debut Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
Rain's debut puts him at the top of the charts with vol. 1. Even though i have to admit that this was not the best album i have heard from the K-pop star with only two singles off this album that will have you jumping. "bad guy" and "besides saying goodbye". Im not a real big fan of this album bcause he lacked the flav that he gave in his second...i give i 1/2 thumb up! thank you

A Handsome start... Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I thought Bi had a good debut with this CD. It included the two elements people look for in an album: Good Dance songs and relaxing slow songs.

There are many good dance songs that I enjoyed, but the main focus for me the was the ballad 'Handshake'. That song was the main focus for me on this CD. It's actually my favorite song. He sings it so beautifully that if it were a single, I'd have bought it as well. ^_^ He's another great artist that knows how to work bass into any type of song...

a really good beginner vol. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This album is really good considering that it was Rain's first vol. His singing skills was average, but he has that deep and unforgivable voice. Favorite track:#2(Ak soo)-excellent and sad ballad; #4(Na)-love this song; #5(I can't get used to it)-another good ballad; #7(Instead of saying goodbye)-this was the first song that I really like after I found out that he was also a singer and not just an actor, it just a sweet and fun song; #8(Just like you)-great song.

Bi is Great... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I love this guy... I love his song An-nyeong-ee-ran mal tae shin (Instead of Goodbye). That song is so cute to me... The beat is very mellow and calm. I like how he decided to use a kind of romantic jazzy feel for this song, yet it sounds very bubbly and poppish. It's really cute. It sounds like something SM Town would do or something. I also like Last Handshake and Na ppeun nam ja (Evil Man) and Because It's Not Familiar. Those songs are also pretty good. I am looking forward to Rain making a big debut here in the US. He deserves it after how much he's been through and how hard he's worked.
