アメリカ南部。父親の造る密造酒を車で配達していたジュニア・ジャクソンは、連日パトカーの追跡を逃れているうちに見事な運転テクニックを身につけていた。父親が逮捕され裁判費用が必要になると、ジュニアは中古車をぶつけ合うデモリッション・ダービーに出場し賞金を得る。さらに賞金額の多いストックカー・レースに参戦することを決めたジュニアは、弟や仲間と改造運搬車を作り密造酒を運んで資金を得る。ついにレースに参戦したジュニアは連戦連勝、大物チームから勧誘されるが、組織やルールを嫌う彼は、単身大レースに挑むのだった……。
