Hitting a homerun at the box office, Rookies -Sotsugyo- is the blockbuster silver-screen finale to the 2008 TBS spring drama Rookies. Based on Morita Masanori's best-selling manga, Rookies revolves around a do-good high school teacher and baseball coach and his adventures reforming his team of delinquent students. After continuing the mini-series' storyline in a TV special in October 2008, the Rookies finally graduated on the big screen in May 2009 to the tune of eight billion yen, making it Japan's highest-grossing film of 2009.

The entire Nikotamagawa team, including director Hirakawa Yuichiro, coach Sato Ryuta (Gachi Boy), and players Ichihara Hayato (Rainbow Song), Koide Keisuke (Cyborg She), Shirota You (Heat Island), Sato Takeru (Mei-chan no Shitsuji), Nakao Akiyoshi (Dragon Zakura), Igarashi Shunji, Kiritani Kenta (Crows Zero), and Takaoka Sousuke (Crows Zero), all return for Rookies -Sotsugyo-. Along with new ikemen additions Yamamoto Yusuke (MW), Ishida Takuya (GS Wonderland), and Takeda Kohei (Kamen Rider Kiva), the team make their final trip to the national high school baseball championships, and that day they thought would never come: graduation.

2008年4月からTBS系列で放送された、熱血教師と問題球児たちの成長を描く、熱血野球ドラマ「ROOKIES」。森田まさのりの同名人気コミックをベースに、夢も目標もない野球部員たちが、不器用ながらも這い上がっていく姿を描いて好評を博した。熱血教師を佐藤隆太が、市原隼人や城田優、佐藤健などのイケメンたちが野球部員を演じている。
本作は、ドラマの続編に当たる、ファン必見の劇場版。野球部メンバーが最後の甲子園を目指すだけでなく、彼らの卒業までが描かれた、映画ならではのオリジナル・ストーリーに仕上がっている。ニコガクメンバーの軌跡が詰まった3枚組の"卒業アルバム仕様"でリリースされる本作には、ドキュメントや座談会などが収められた2枚の特典ディスクが封入されている。

ニコガク野球部の面々が3年に進級し、川藤も教師に返り咲いた新学期。野球部には有望選手の赤星と、平塚をヒーローと崇める濱中が入部してきた。だが、メジャーリーガーを目指す赤星はチームの方針に反抗的で、平塚の実態を知った濱中も拗ねてしまう。そんななか、不良生徒に絡まれた赤星をかばい、御子柴が脚を骨折。夏の予選大会への出場が絶望的となって…。
