YesAsia Editorial Description

After winning fans across Asia with his starring turns in The Return of the Condor Heroes and Shanghai Bund, top Mainland actor Huang Xiaoming steps into another classic role in the new period drama Royal Tramp from renowned producer Zhang Jizhong. Based on Jin Yong's timeless novel, this Qing Dynasty drama revolves around the mischievous, amorous, and sometimes dangerous adventures of accidental revolutionary Wei Xiao Bao. Portraying a character previously made famous by Tony Leung Chiu Wai (The Duke of Mount Deer), Dicky Cheung (The Duke of Mount Deer 2000), and Stephen Chow (Royal Tramp), Huang brings his own natural charm to the role of a young man who grows up in the brothels and bumbles his way into the Forbidden City. Torn between his friendship with the temperamental Qing emperor and fiercely upright Ming insurgents, Wei is thrown into many life-threatening predicaments - but still finds time to woo and marry seven wives along the way!

Hong Kong actor Wallace Chung (The Patriotic Knights) co-stars as Emperor Kangxi, while the seven beauties who compete for Wei Xiao Bao's affections are embodied by Hong Kong actress Cherrie Ying (Throw Down) and Mainland starlets Ning Jing, Hu Ke, Xiao Li Fei, Shu Chang, Liu Zi, and He Zhuoyan. Royal Tramp also co-stars Elvis Tsui and Tae.

beautiful show Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This show had gorgeous scenery and was a great show to watch, especially the kid who played as young WXB, he was especially entertaining. I just wish they didnt cut out the episodes that take place in russia, if not for that, i would be 100% happy with the show. Either way, if you can get this, get it. Its worth the money especially if your looking for a show that will make you laugh.

will this be the uncut edition? Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
i heard tai seng had gotten this distributorship earlier than the mainland distributors and hence had a chance of having the uncut edition? Can those who had watched this confirm it? had the scenes of the earlier meeting with the russian princess (sophia) and his endeavours with his wives (like when he was in a waterfall with them, e.t.c.) been cut?

I really hope to get the uncut version, cos i heard the cut version makes it hard to understand the flow at times.

You'll wish you had 7 wives too at the end Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The look, settings, costumes, and acting of all the characters are top notch and all the wives are especially beautiful. I was concerned that Huang Xiao Ming was Yang Guo in the Condor Heroes and Wei Xiao Bao is a drastically different character but he pulls it off. You'll find that he is not an innocent Wei Xiao Bao, but portrays the character as more sinister than the 1984 depiction. I also get the suspicion that there are a few scenes cut, especially the ones involving him and his wives. This is still a good series to buy, especially since it comes in Cantonese however there are a few things about this DVD that annoy me. The subtitles are really questionable at some points as you'll feel that they just ran the Chinese through babelfish. The other thing is that in between episodes there are commercials for other movies which you can't really skip, just fast forward. I also wish there was a version of the end credits that didn't have the annoying advertisement as well.

Very entertaining Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This version could be the best compared to 1984 and 2000 versions. The setting is breathtaking, especially the Imperial Palace. Huang Xiao Ming did a good job, better than Tony Leung and Dicky Cheung in version 1984 and 2000, respectively. The 7 wives are pretty, especially He Zhouyan and Cherrie Ying. The subtitle is good as well. The only weakness that the story is a bit plain at a few last episodes before it reach a climax again at the two last episodes. However, generally it is very good.

Cuts made Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
I have read that the director in order to be be in line with the Chinese censorship board in China had to make over 700 cuts in his finished product,
hope that it does not affect this version of the dvd.
