Before breaking through in a fury of blazing guns with A Better Tomorrow, John Woo directed quite a few films outside of the pure action genre including 1985's Run Tiger Run. Coming one year before A Better Tomorrow, Run Tiger Run is an entertaining marriage of director John Woo's action aesthetics and screenwriter Raymond Wong's family comedy sensibilities. The film stars Teddy Robin (To Spy With Love), child actor Bin Bin, Pan Ying Zhi (Swordswomen Three) in one of her last film roles, and that other breakthrough action director of the 1980s, Tsui Hark - as a character named Grandpa Steak none less.

Homeless buddies Teddy (Teddy Robin) and Benny (Bin Bin) have a tough life, but they happily make do with what they can get. Their small lives experience some big changes when they are unwittingly pulled into a deadly inheritance battle. Benny is mistaken for a millionaire's grandson tapped for a very large inheritance and gets abducted. To save Benny, Teddy must team up with assassin Mortal Lips and his motley crew of street-straggling friends for the ultimate rescue mission.

流浪漢史泰迪和小彬彬相依為命，雖然生活清苦，仍樂在其中，不料二人突破被捲入一宗遺產爭奪案中。億萬富翁預立遺囑，指定孫兒小寶貝是其唯一繼承人。此事被逐出家門的不肖長子「大少爺」得悉，企圖奪產，密謀殺害小寶貝。小寶貝幸得家庭教師廖瑪莉相救，把他藏匿起來。大少爺派殺手四處追查，卻誤把樣貌酷似的小彬彬抓住，而史泰迪則被捉返豪華別墅。大少爺聘請女殺手「毒嘴唇」剷除史泰迪，不料兩人一見鍾情，反過來協助史泰迪逃脫，可惜只帶走了小寶貝。為了營救虎穴中的瑪莉和小彬彬，史泰迪召集街頭流浪漢，帶各種武器衝進別墅，經一番混戰，各人終脫險。

Teddy and little Bin Bin are happy wanderers contented with their simple life and hardship. Incidentally, they are entangled into a legacy conflict. In his will, the billionaire assigns his grandson Little Babe to be the sole inheritor of his estate. The disowned elder son of the family is shocked that he conspires to kill Little Babe so as to possess the fortune. Luckily, the tutor, Mary Liu hides Little Babe, while another child who resembles Bin Bin, is kidnapped with Teddy to a luxurious villa. Lady killer, "Poisonous Lips" is hired to kill Teddy. But she falls in love with him at first sight that she helps him and Little Babe to escape instead. Returning with a gang of wanderers, both Mary and Bin Bin are escorted to safety.
