One of the most tragic and saddest endings ever in anime history. Although the OVAs do not follow the manga, they offer a more realistic alternative ending to the series that is sure to move you to tears before the credits roll. Animation is MUCH better than in the tv series, giving a more life-like appearance to the characters and much more violent, bloody battles. Most importantly, the soundtrack to this is simply beautiful. Each piece of BGM fits the mood perfectly and is definately one of the best anime soundtracks ever (one of which I'm seriously considering buying the soundtrack cd). Many Kenshin fans reject this masterpiece as it is not faithful to the manga; which is a shame since, putting the latter aside, this ova series is simply one of the most beautiful creations in the anime world. |

One of the best OVA's
| Simply put, this is one of the best OVA's I have ever seen if not my favourite at the moment. It is very bloody, moving and the last 15 mins in the last chapter will move you to tears. The animation is better than the T.V show and the charecters are portrayed realistically for once and its in a nice contrast to the big eyed, comedy antics of Kenshin in the T.V show. To give it 4 out of 5 would be an insult. |

I am a big fan of Ruroni Kenshi (Samurai X). I was happy to see the Anime version of this manga. I wasn't disappointed. It was a grade higher than the Tv seires. That was to be expected because its an OVA! I did not give it full credit for several reasons. There was a lack of explanation. The animators should have explained exactly what was going on in Japan during that time. They also used flashback too often and suddenly. You would have to watch certain scenes several times to understand what was going on. But if you overlook these (what I consider minor things), I believe that any true fan would enjoy the sad chapter of Kenshin's life. |
