Jeff Lau and Wong Kar Wai reinvented the Jin Yong classic novel Condor Hero as a post-modern romantic action comedy for Savior of the Soul, the 1991 premier feature of Andy Lau's Teamwork production company. Painted with hyper-real manga aesthetics, the star-studded blockbuster features a unique wuxia world filled with a mixture of resonating romance, mo-lei-tau laughs, and some impressive action set pieces. A sequel followed the next year with Corey Yuen and David Lai returning as co-directors, Gordon Chan joining the writing team, and Yuen Tak taking up post as action director. Andy Lau is back in the lead role alongside his then-rumored girlfriend Rosamund Kwan, Corey Yuen, Richard Ng, and singer Shirley Kwan in her movie debut.

Our hero Ching Yan (Andy Lau) dreams of a mysterious lady (Rosamund Kwan) every night and he is seriously enchanted by her ethereal beauty. When the Devil King (Richard Ng) gives a big bounty for anyone who can bring him the treasure known as the "Maiden Chilly Ice", Yan sets off to scale the snowy mountain and eventually manages to retrieve it. He is shocked to find a woman trapped in the Ice, and that is none other than his dream lover! Yan breaks the spell that cast her in the Ice, but she is cursed so that whatever she touches will become frozen. The Devil King comes to get her, and Yan is killed in the struggle to keep her. The Maid sacrifices her life essence to resurrect Yan, who will fight to the end to save her from the clutches of evil...

　　In a search for a treasure aiming for the reward from the Devil, Andy met and found his long time dream-lover, Rosemund. However, in order to save Rosemund from Devil, Andy was being killed. Rosemund gives Andy her last sacred breath for his resurrection but Andy has chosen to die again for the retrieval of Rosemund's beauty. Andy and Rosemund could only become dream lovers.

This movie got edited. Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10

I have the original VHS from the first release of this movie and it was great. Than I got the DVD and everything changed. alot of small scenes where either edited or tooken out and some new small scenes where added in. In the DVD version a cantonese song was added into the movie, which didn't even go with it. During the scene where Rosemund was blocking the fire from Andy, the main song was tooken out and the instermental version was put in. That made my mom dissopointed, since it was her favorite movie of all times. I just hope the reuse the original one instead, because it's allot better.
