To eat, or not to eat? That is the question posed in the delightful School Days with a Pig, winner of the Audience Award at the 21st Tokyo Film Festival. Directed by Maeda Tetsu (A Cheerful Gang Turns the Earth), this heartwarming crowdpleaser serves up the triple killer of popular leading man Tsumabuki Satoshi, cute kids, and a cuter piglet. Based on a true story, the film follows the experiences of a schoolteacher and his 28 students who raise a pig together with the original intention of eating it at the end of the school year. Presenting classroom scenes and debates in a documentary-like manner, the film realistically captures the children's experiences and emotions as the year goes by. Also co-starring veterans Harada Mieko and Osugi Ren, School Days with a Pig piles on the easygoing humor, heartfelt sentiments, and cute animal scenes, making the film a big hit for viewers of all ages.

Enthusiastic newbie school teacher Hoshi (Tsumabuki Satoshi) starts off the school year with an interesting project. Towing a piglet to class, Hoshi informs his 28 students they will be raising their new classroom pet together, and then eating it at the end of the year. The kids take a quick liking to their pink mascot and name her P-chan. Learning responsibility and having fun at the same time, they happily play with and care for P-chan, but as the year end draws near, the kids are faced with some tough decisions about P-chan's fate.
