Okay, but should have been better. Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
The entire production value of this movie is REALLY GOOD! What's dissapointing is that the director "meanders" on side stories or mini plots which carry no consequenses for the rest of the movie (does the audience have to watch over three minutes of a "lonely" horse, trying to find it's way back to it's village?). Also, there's not enough martial arts for the "junkies". And when it does get to it, most of the action is sooooo heavily edited or at times filmed too close to the combatants. How dissapointing! Thus, the reasoning for only "6" stars. It's supposed to be a martial arts movie, and Tsui Hark seems to have forgotten the basic rules (straight, well written/interesting plot; well choreograph (and shot) martial arts sequences and better rhythm/pace throught out the entire movie).

Awesome Movie!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
After reading so many negative reviews/comments on this film I was inclined to not buying it, but after a while I thought what the hey might as well check it out for myself. And I'm glad I did purchased this movie, it put all doubt to rest that I wouldn't enjoy it. It has fantastic action sequences, an excellent solid story line and great drama. I'm actually really looking forward to the sequence, which I'm sure if it anything like it's predecessor it's gonna be "DA BOMB!!!!". Congratulations & Welcome Back Tsui Hark!!!!

good representative of the genre Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10

A movie like Seven Swords has to be approached like a grand myth, since it has only tenuous ties to historical truth. The heroes and the bad guys will be much bigger than life; when this kind of story is done poorly, the characters look silly and it is impossible to care about them. When the genre is done well, you can expect some time in a very different place with people who won't remind you of co-workers!

Seven Swords is grandly told, with the feel of something recounted about a campfire by someone who first heard it from a long-dead forbear. The fantastic elements are nicely balanced by the grittiness of most of the clothing, and the shaggy, winter-coated horses [for anyone who knows horses, seeing sleek, clean, groomed horses in a chilly autumn setting is a jarring anachronism--further, these animals all look like authentic, working horses].

I watched the 153 minute version in a single sitting, and lost track of the time, absorbed in a world far from my own, gritty and dangerous.

Top film Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This film is one of the best produced this year. It has class, martial arts, simple storyline but great choreography. The background sceneries are breathtaking, especially when you watch 'The Making Of' and realised that the buildings and village were all built from scratch. The whole cast and crew have certainly done a lot to make this film a remarkable piece of art this year! I would definitely recommend this film. I will be keeping an eye out for a sequel!

unbearably boring .....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..... Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
nothing is good about this movie, even Donnie Yen's great martial art skills have been significantly weakened by this movie's "rookie" action choreographers and other clumsy actors. if you hear about "Dragon Inn" and watch it - you will know what a swordplay (Wuxia) film really should be. so don't waste your time on this one, seriously!!

Good Movie Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I really enjoyed the movie. I have to disagree with the previous comment on the plot. The person who finds it disappointing might be an understanding issue, not a plot issue. Ambitious movie and I appreciate the effort. It's an overall good movie with it's cast and story.

Grreaaaat Movie! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I am stunned. This film was great! OMG! Donnie Yen looked fantastic but his role wasnt much as there were too many main stars.
This is the only chinese fighting film that is more westernised. Not the usual that you see.
Great movie!

Disappointed Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
I was very disappointed this movie. There's no story & plot at all. I'd rather he used all those $ in developing a better script than all those computer graphics.....

Greatly Disappointed! Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10
I thought this movie was supposed to be better than any of the previous BIG kung-fu action moveies but this is totally a disappointment. The acting is terrible, plot is poorly written, scenes are badly edited. The only good thing is the fighting direction. I'm glad I saw this movie before making a rush decision of buying (given Tsui Hark's reputations), I would kick myself if I pay even 10 bucks on this crap. Rent or borrow to watch, don't bother to waste money on this, save it for something better.

a Tsui Hark Film...... For Sure!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
it has Tsui's fingermarks all over the film.. yes it's a bit dark and yes it seems a bit slow... on the whole, it's an above average production on the Tsui's filmology - if you are hoping for a Wong-FeiHung type of movie then you are going to be very DISAPPOINTED... so to summarise - you are either going to love it or hate it.. but for me, there are bits of the film - for example, the scenary/background, the attention to details, the true likeness to the Novel, the costumes, the swords, the brilliant final dual and many more - takes my breath away! It's a SHAME it's all in bits and not the whole film!!!!
