Adapted from the Chinese classic Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio by Pu Songling, the series Shen Jian Fu Mo is based on the same story that gave rise to Tsui Hark's famous A Chinese Ghost Story. Mainland young idols Hu Ge from Chinese Paladin and Yang Mi from the popular Condor Hero step into Leslie Cheung's and Joey Wang's roles as the handsome student and the female ghost, enacting a forbidden yet touching romance set in ancient China. Female ghost Xiaoqian (Yang Mi) falls in love with a handsome student Ning Caishen (Hu Ge) who stops by the temple where she lives. She betrays the wicked but powerful Dark Mountain Demon who subsequently wants to kill both Xiaoqian and Ning Caishen. Taoist Priest Yan (Eric Kot), originally after Xiaoqian, decides to stand on the couple's side to fight against the Demon...

Another Nice Adaption
| I liked this movie because it shows the story behind both the protagonist and antagonist. I even cried when the Tree Demon died. The reason I didn't give it a complete 5 star was because I was disappointed that the ending wasn't all that great. I would perfer that Xiao Qian reincarnated into human and was able to unite with Ning Caishen 18 or so years later, at the end. |
