After playing an aspiring conductor in the immensely popular
Nodame Cantabile, heartthrob Tamaki Hiroshi takes an unlikely turn for the Fuji TV drama
Shika Otoko Awoniyoshi. He becomes ... a deer! Based on Makime Manabu's acclaimed novel,
Shika Otoko Awoniyoshi (a.k.a.
The Fantastic Deer Man) did not attract the type of attention and ratings
Nodame did, but the drama earned a loyal following with its quirky and unique story, witty writing, and charming performance. Co-starring Ayase Haruka (
Hotaru no Hikari) and Tabe Mikako (
Saiyuki),
Shika Otoko Awoniyoshi puts an offbeat spin on the trendy urban drama with magical realism, curious mysteries, and Tamaki Hiroshi as the Deer Man.
After a fallout with his colleagues sends him sacking, Ogawa Takanobu (Tamaki Hiroshi) ends up teaching at an all girls' high school in Nara. On the first day, he starts off on the wrong foot with his decidedly odd student Hotta Ito (Tabe Mikako), and the strange run-ins continue as he settles into this school full of eccentrics and city full of wandering deer. One day Ogawa encounters a talking deer who enlists him into a mission to save Japan. Ogawa, however, fails the first task given to him. When he wakes up the next day, he realizes his head has turned into that of a deer. And thus begins Ogawa's mysterious adventures...
