Shin Hye Sung Vol. 3 Side 2 - Keep Leaves

Beloved by many for his tender, heart-piercing vocals, Shin Hye Sung shifts his focus back to ballad, a genre in which the singer has carved a niche for himself over the past decade. In the second installation of his third album entitled Side 2 – Keep Leaves, Shin offers a huge dose of soulful, heart-rending lyrics and enchanting melodies, highlighted by his trademark vocals. Some of the collaborators for the album include Kim Jae Seok of Wanted, high-profile hitmaker Kim Do Hoon, up-and-coming songwriter Willgoh, and multi-talented musician Vink, Shin's regular contributor who previously worked on Shin's second solo album as well as Shinhwa's 9th album.

The principle track Whe jeon wha het seo ("Why Did You Call" – Track 3) is composed by Ha Jung Ho, the same talent behind Sarang hagi jo eun nal ("Perfect Day for Romance"), Shin's duet with Miss Korea Lee Ha Nee which featured in the previous installment Side 1– Live and Let Live. Though awash in tears with lyrics about yearning for a lost love, the song sets itself apart from conventional ballads by mixing in a wide range of dynamic sounds. In the music video version, Shin teams up with his SBS variety show Love Letter partner Lee Young Ah to render a beautiful love story set against Sapporo's snowy landscape.

아픈 사랑의 기억을 고스란히 담은 듯 애달픈 목소리로 ‘신혜성’이 돌아온다.

지난 해 여름 날, 조금은 낯선 목소리로 또 하나의 ‘신혜성’을 보여주었던 3집 SIDE 1에 이어 이번에는 그에게도, 어쩌면 10년을 지켜봐 온 음악 팬들에게도 가장 익숙한, 그럼에도 여전히 가슴 아리게 하는 ‘신혜성’만의 슬픈 발라드로 구성된 SIDE 2 ‘KEEP LEAVES’를 발매한다.

총 10개 트랙으로 구성된 이번 앨범은 마치 한 편의 슬픈 영화를 노랫말과 멜로디에 담은 듯 ‘신혜성’의 애절한 목소리가 돋보인다.

특히 타이틀 곡 ‘왜 전화했어 …’는 지난 여름 SIDE 1 발매 당시 화제가 되었던 2006년 미스코리아 진 ‘이하늬’와의 듀엣 곡 ‘사랑하기 좋은 날’을 작곡한 ‘하정호’의 곡으로 이별 후에도 잊지 못한 채 서로를 그리워하는 연인들의 마음을 담은 가사와 눈물을 머금은 듯 흐느끼는 ‘신혜성’의 애절한 보이스가 조화를 이룬 슬픈 발라드 곡이다.

또한, 기존의 발라드 곡들과는 다르게 전개되는 드라마틱한 구성과 다이나믹한 사운드는 슬픈 가사와 애절한 보이스를 더욱 빛나게 해주며, 이승철, 신승훈, 이승환 등 발라드 계보를 잇는 대표주자로서의 ‘신혜성’이 지닌 가치를 또 한번 느끼게 하는 명곡이다.

이번 앨범에는 아름다운 노랫말과 웅장한 스트링 편곡 등으로 많은 사랑을 받았던 신화 9집 수록 곡 ‘다시 한번만’을 비롯 신혜성 3집 SIDE 1에 수록된 유일한 R&B 곡 ‘후유증’을 작곡한 그룹 ‘원티드’의 ‘김재석’, 이제는 신혜성’의 음악적 파트너로 많은 교감을 나누고 있는 가수 겸 작곡가 ‘VINK (임형빈)’, 지난 해 유무선 사이트에서 스테디셀러 음원으로 오랫동안 사랑받았던 ‘퍼플레인’을 작곡, 대한민국 가요계를 이끌고 있는 스타 작곡가 중 한 명임을 또 한번 입증한 ‘김도훈’, 신혜성 콘서트 밴드 멤버로 두 번의 단독 아시아투어를 함께 했던 베이시스트이자, 신인 작곡가 ‘Willgoh’등이 참여, 신혜성을 대표하는 또 하나의 앨범이 될 수 있도록 빛내주었다.
