Shine On You was one of TVB's most anticipated dramas of 2004, marking the long-awaited comeback of top 90s actor Michael Tao. After seven years away from TVB, he reunited with Detective Investigation Files co-star Kenix Kwok, bringing the golden couple of the mid-90s back to television screens. Sealing the trifecta is Tao's longtime buddy and TVB favorite Bobby Au-Yeung. Tao and Au-Yeung both broke through to leading man status during the early 90s with File of Justice, and Shine On You was their first series together in almost a decade. Co-starring Shirley Yeung, Cerina da Graca, and veteran Paul Chun, the 30-episode series revolves around the staff and students of an underdog high school. TVB rounded up many fresh young singers of the time, including Yu Chiu, Roy Chow, and Cookies members Angela, Gloria, and Helena, to play the school's students.

The victim of company politics, competitive businessman Ga (Bobby Au-Yeung) gets unceremoniously booted into a principal position, with the unhappy task of cleaning up a failing high school. Faced with apathetic teachers, underperforming problem students, and lagging enrollment, Ga applies cold business strategies to high school administration. In his one-minded quest to cut costs, his top candidates for the axe are industrious new teacher Wong (Kenix Kwok) and the unmotivated Tsang (Michael Tao). Wong's dedication to teaching, however, slowly inspires both Tsang and Ga to embrace their jobs. As the school begins to pick up, so too does their rivalry for Wong's affections!

賈濟材(歐陽震華)受老闆所托，出任一所九流中學為校長。面對校譽欠佳的學校、無心向學的學生以經驗較他豐富百倍的教師，材苦笑之餘亦只有費煞思量，如何將學校轉虧為盈。為開源節流，曾政良(陶大宇)及王若詩(郭可盈)先後成為裁減對象。良加入教師行列是希望能輕輕鬆鬆過日子，相反，詩便希望學生能像自己一樣遇上良師。三人立場迥異，時有衝突，幸得校工賈華標(秦沛)多次從中解困，才化險為夷。各人幾經努力，學校終上下一心。不料，消息傳來，學校將要關閉……

A businessman KAR TSAI CHOI (Au YEUNG CHUN WAH, BOBBY) is suddenly appointed the headmaster of a low-ranked middle school by his boss CHOI has to face problems from students, teachers, and the dreadful reputation of the school. He also has to cut expenditure to fix the financial crisis.

Teaching staff TSANG CHING LEUNG (DAO TAI YU, MICHAEL) and WONG YEUK SZE (KWOK HO YING, KENIX) are the first two to be sacked. LEUNG thinks that teaching would give him an easy life. Unlike LEUNG, SZE has a very strong commitment to education. The three have different views on school matters, which push them into constant conflicts. But along the way, caretaker KAR WAH BIU (CHUN PUI, PAUL) has made a crucial contribution to the developoment of their relationship. With the efforts, everyone becomes united as never before. Unexpectedly, there is a rumor that the school is going to close.....
