Professional Review of "Shinhwa 2nd Live Concert - The Everlasting Mythology"

Shinhwa "The Everlasting Mythology"- The Long-Awaited Live Concert

"The Everlasting Mythology" (18th to 20th April 2003) was the sophomore live concert of the topnotch Korean group Shinhwa. Just the exquisite stage settings plus the concert hall upgraded with costly special effects are glamorous enough to put Shinhwa on the same platform to be compared with the Johnny's Idols in Japan and the sensational idols in Hong Kong. What came first in the live concert to amaze all audiences were the 6 Shinhwa members lying on coffins plus their blazing microphone stands and they went on to reveal many more gadgets including hand-held flame shooters.

The music started with "Perfect Man" followed by "Wild Eyes". It is of course entertaining enough to get carried away by the groovy dance moves in their music videos. However, the live performance of "Yo! +Jam#1" and "Usha Usha" should deserve much credits because of Shinhwa's onstage ebullience. It was also a combination of chemistry on the tune when Shin Hye-sung sang accompanied by Kang Ta 's instrumental play. We can catch a glimpse of the group's acapella performance on Track 14 (Track 12 of the VCD version), which presents a time in this live concert when each member could show off their very own talents. The part of Kim Dong-wan characterized by rock & roll music was particularly impressive in so far that it could help prove the capability of Dong-wan to stand solo as a rock singer. Both "History of Shinhwa" and Dong-wan's Photo Essay which features the interesting pictures he took of his teammates' lives are very amusing. Overall speaking the 6 different parts featuring each Shinhwa member can be one walking example showing how important multiple talents are to a pop group. To their fans, however, what matters the most should still be these 6 men's dedicated performance on the stage.

There are, nevertheless, a few shortcomings in the recording of their live concert. It seems that the video cameras were not controlled fast enough to keep up with the pace of the show in such a huge concert hall. Another problem, which is frequently found when the songs hit the climax, is that there were far too many long-distance shots focusing on no one while some shots were meaninglessly wasted on the fans. I bet one main reason for the fans buying this recording is to relive the time when the stars were shining on the stage. However, isn't it a bit ironic for them to see more of themselves than their idols on the TV screen?

The running of the show was also not smooth enough, which has created some redundant chapters. The group dancing was fair of course but not all of the content was up to standard enough for the adult to enjoy. Hopefully next time more effort can be spent on the management of the concert so as to produce a smoother performance. Actually, wouldn't it be a nice idea to invite a veteran of directing from Japan to perform the duty?

Energic concert Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I was a late fan. I did not have the concert video, but I bought the cd. Too bad the concert vcd is not available anymore. It is interesting to hear the huge glorious fans cheering up their idols. The positive atmosphere could be felt even we only listened to it. The energetic Shinhwa created an everlasting legend that fans kept on cheering them. The recording is excellent in the beginning, but it turns out differently in the last. Perhaps Shinhwa had lost his energy that their closing words are very weak. Without seeing the concert and only hearing the cd, I am impressed with 'Yo!' and "Jam # 1" ... very special as the fans sang along even the songs are not easy to follow indeed. Good product.

Thumbs up BUT... Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
It was a very good concert, a pity though that these 2 DVDs' don't come with English subtitles. Being a non-Korean I have no idea what they were talking about since there were lots of Korean dialogue in it which to me was very frustrating indeed!

Go! it was funny! the solo performances were good...Eric's pants feel down, i think he did it on purpose, though, but going on, it was lots of fun!! Shinhwa is Hot! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
As much as I love shinhwa, and as much as I love Eric Mun!(my husband) why was his hair in braids? It looked so terrible, was he trying to pull a JunJin? But I still love him. And what was up with that violent rap. Dang Eric. He is defintly turnin gangsta!Lol. Minwoo was hotness in his solo dance. That man can move. Jin was awsome dancing too. Andy shouldn't dance(stick with rapping) he should of rapped with Eric.
I couldn't believe Kang Ta(Hyesungs boyfriend) was there. Whooo. How nice. Dongwan's rock songs was alright. Sound like he forcing himself to sound all like a rocker. And he can play the guitar. That was kool.
There were funny bits in the concert. Cute moments. Overrall it was bangin. All they need to do is tone down the lip syncing and thank goodness Eric's braid stage is over!! Why'd he had to change his hair for that concert? Darn!! :)

ShinHwa are the Best!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Its GREAT!!! Was a little disappointed that the opening song Perfect Man wasn't sung live & Wild Eyes but the hilarious/cool stuff that comes on later makes up for it! JunJin's special was cool, he danced and danced, funny and cool. HyeSungs special, he only sang 1 song, I wanted to see more of him and hear more of his soothing voice!! Ah, but KangTa played the piano which was a nice suprise. The different endings for Eusha Eusha was interesting, I've never seen that done in concert before!! Andy's solo, he danced... and with a girl - was kinda racey/naughty!! DongWan's solo was great - he sings a slow song, then a rock type one and plays guitar, was funny hearing him sing like that!! He's so multi-talented, he's not as spotlighted as the much as Minwoo and HyeSung (back then) so its good that his talents can be seen here - same with the rest of Shinhwa. Plus he was soo HOT, arent they all?!! Heal the World, performed by JunJin and Eric was HILARIOUS!! Eric's solo, he does 2 raps/songs but I dont think they were live :(. Minwoo's, he dances and dances!! You also get to see funny photos of the guys - ShinHwa never fail to entertain.

I recommend this and its a MUST for ShinHwa fans!!
