YesAsia Editorial Description

An early collaboration between famed director Yuen Woo Ping and action superstar Jackie Chan, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow is pure Hong Kong Cinema fun! Jackie Chan is Chien Fu, an orphaned hard-luck case who gets a break when he meets Pai Chang Tien (Simon Yuan Siu Tin). Pai may seem like a beggar, but he's really the master of the snake fist style, and is on the run from Shang Kuan Yin (Hwang Jang Lee), master of the powerful eagle claw! Pai offers to teach Chien Fu the snake fist style, but Chien Fu does him one better by inventing his own "Cat's Claw" style to counter the superior eagle claw style! As in their later collaboration, Drunken Master, Jackie Chan and Yuen Woo Ping serve up comedy, cool martial arts styles, and some elaborately choreographed fight sequences that are guaranteed to entertain! It's snake vs. eagle vs. cat in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, an early Jackie Chan hit featuring Chan's inimitable comic charm and kung-fu ability!

Directed by Yuen Woo Ping and starred by rookie Jackie Chan, this classic kung-fu movie had been a blast in whole Asia when it made its debut release in 1978. Combined martial arts with comical action sequences, Jackie Chan’s agility has been thoroughly shown through Yuen’s unique and fantastic action style.

snake in eagles shadow Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Glad that his fans recognised Jackie's maturing acting ability. Much better directed and presented by Yuen Woo Ping than those by director Lo Wei in Jackie's horribly english dubbed movies. As Jackie himself said before Lo did not capitalise on his martial art . Fighting sequences were excellent though the ending scene was dragging a bit. A bit of booboo in editing as you can see Jackie's outfits totally soiled and then a little cleaner in the same sequence. Wide angle shots shows off action and some of Jackie's fitness (the training sessions!!). Jackie's fans should start with this in their collection. Sub-titles could do with an upgrade in translation as we know what they're like in the old days.

Jackie Chan at his best! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
One of the finest movies of Jackie's career - great action scenes combined with slapstick comedy this is a great addition for Chan fans and collectors alike - an excellent transition to DVD, great sharp images along with true 5.1 sounds - this is a must! :)

A Must See Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie was very, very good. Not only does it have great fight scenes and a lot of humor, but it also shows off Jackie's acting skills better than most of his old films. I really felt sorry for him in some of the scenes, he seemed so sad. My only problem is not with the movie itself, but with the subtitles which are half on and half off the screen.

Jackie Rules! Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Great early Jackie movie! Though it doesn't say, the VCD does have English subtitles, though very hard to read. They disappear off the sides and bottom of the screen quite a few times! Martial arts scenes are great, and in some scenes Jackie's acting is surprisingly good for such an early film in his career. Demonstrates his great versatility and ability. Loved this movie!!
