April 21, 2007 Jumong is 1 o4 4 fine actorsPrince Jumong is loveable, I can't miss an episode. I love the King, who the rotten Dae So deposed; and I really adore the lovely Lady Yuhwa; and Chae Si-ra as the Queen; (SHE is as deliciously evilly rotten as she was in Dae Jang Geum as Lady Choi)- The Puyo Sorceress is a wonderful & familiar, talented face to see; So Seo No is swell for so young an actress; and I love the 3 loyal soldiers who pledge their lives to Prince Jumong - Oi, Mari, & Hyeoppo - everyone is so darn good in this there just arent any bad performances. There is plenty of scenery chewing by the 2 other princes; but I'm beginning to think it just the format of the genre. I did not start out wanting to get hooked on this show; having just slogged thru Sea Emporer - I didn't like that one much - nearly every guy was a fairly bad person, including the 'hero'. I did like Lady Jami, who soounded like a beautiful & very angry bird at times - she is a great actress, no doubt about that. Prince Jumong is much better of a character to play, & the actor is appropriately herioc. But the ladies & supporting cast really shine in this one. Great great ensemble cast. April 21, 2007 What is Beauty?I am USA caucasian. I was surprised to hear so many USA oldies in the show. BE MY LOVE ("for no one can end this yearning"...) is one of the best American love songs of the past60-70 years. Nearly every great USA vocalist has 'covered' the song in that time.It hasn't been done much since the early 1960's, so I was thrilled to recognise it in 'My Name is Kim Sam-soon'- along with some other lovely familiar songs& melodies. I don't speak Korean, only English..yet to know the singers' passion & art was easy. Such GREAT Vocalists you have in Korean tv shows. It isnt necessary to 'know' the songs'words, because of the passion of the singers. I adore 'Samsoon' the show. Kim Seon-A is a truly wonderful actress. I will watch her in anything i can find, from now on. What I don't understand as a Westerner, is how you can say 'Samsoon' is ugly, plain, or such things. I thought she was beautiful, and had trouble figuring out who was supposed to be 'plain' & who 'good looking'- I thought the nice young actress who played a manipulative boyfriend stealer was too skinny for her health..but as I say, I dont know who is supposed to be gorgeous & who not - mostly everyone seemed gorgeous, except for the 'Kissing Bandit" at Bon Appetit...I thought Sam-Soon's mom was beautiful. Those black eyes are so lovely. Samsoon's eyes were so expressive, that I cried everytime she did, plus a few other times. Sister was gorgeous. loved the whole family. I had a hard time getting to like Jin-Hyun because he was really mean & rotten. Same with Hee-jin ; how can I like such selfish & selfcentered young people who were old enough to 'know better'? The practice saying cruel things & expecting "I'm sorry' to fix things up is just too different for me. Yet this is one of my favorite shows, including , ESPECIALLY including American tv - I love the look at a unique culture that has retained much of its' old values - even if I am no fan of such patriarchy. Koreans are honest about it, we Americans pretend we aren't. I love Korean music & Hallyu, MBC is my favorite tv producer. Long live Dae Jang-Guem ! Did you find this review helpful?
