The 'retarded young man' was a scene stealer with is charming smile and childish glee, and the fox spirit complimented him well because they played so well together! The story grows dark because of a blunder made by the fox spirit, but you can't hate her since she herself thinks like a child at times despite her intelligence and wisdom.
