YesAsia Editorial Description
Canto-pop's forever young veteran of top hits Alan Tam is back in the mood for brand new passionate songs. This time the Principal has teamed up with a spectacular line up of well known artists. Among his sizzling new 10 tunes fans can find the hot recommendation "Still Love You", which he presents in its absorbing Mandarin version. Right after that he shifts to a more mellow terrain via the touching Karaoke ballad "Rekindling the Sparks of an Old Flame" that he performs with everybody's beloved Jade Kwan. On top of that Alan also chants in unison with Wubai for the first time for the emotional duet "Accept My Love", before he charges to a stunning finale for the theme song "Hometown Longan Tree" that is the theme song for the charity activity "Lifeline Express" supported by song virtuoso Hacken Lee and popular martial arts star Jackie Chan. Outdoing himself once more with a firework of red hot potential smashes, Alan truly deserves a round of applause by all his dedicated fans!

Alan Tam Forever!
| Great album! The sentimental songs are touching and well produced, the lyrics seem to suit Alan very well. I'm also glad to see Alan writing again, though would love to see him compose a slow song on the next album. The fast songs on this album definitely have a "rock" feel, not a "pop" feel. All in all, very enjoyable album, makes you want to listen again and again. |

Alan Tam Made A Comeback
|
Alan Tam has always been my favorite singer since he came out solo from The Wynners. I love listening to his sentimental numbers in the 80's but the quality of his trademark (refering to his great sentimental songs & his own composition) wasn't as good in the recent years. I've been hoping that Alan will make a great album like "Love Trap", "Choi Kin Pa!Long Mun", "Mai Wak", and many of his great albums produced in the 80's & early 90's. Fortunately,Alan have not let his fans down with the release of his latest album "Starlight Boulevard". You can find this album to be balance with some quality sentimental songs and what delighted me most is that Alan started back with his own composition for this latest album. I really hope that Alan will put in more time to write his own sentimental songs like he did in the 80's. He is in fact quite a quality song composer. Alan's latest release actually requires several times of listening before you begin to like the songs in it. I personally like this album as it gives you the urge to listen to the songs over & over again. However, i still prefer Alan's albums during the peak of his singing career in the 80's & early 90's. Hope that his producer will seriously help him produce such quality albums in the near future so that Alan can deliver his powerful vocal skills especially to his fans again. Well done Alan, William Kwan & Joseph Ip for this album "Starlight Boulevard" but I believe you guys can give us better quality albums in time to come. All The Best TO ALAN TAM & YOU'RE HK's EVERGREEN KING OF POP. P/S : Please consider a duet song for Alan Tam & Jacky Cheung as I think both these great singers will not disappoint their fans if they team up together. |

pretty good
|
I always had slight prejudice against Alan because he seems to always act so arrogant on stage... but when his album came out, I thought, there must be a reason he was a hit in my parent's generation so I'll try it out. Well, I can see why he's respected now. He seems to be paired with Hacken more often than not now days, but when it comes to album quality, this album crushes any Hacken album that came out after 2000. The songs do not sound cheap and rushed, as do most HKpop albums today. Instead, I think it may be the best pop Cantonese album this year in terms of sound and production quality, arrangements, and perhaps lyrics (i have a very limited Chinese vocabulary, but I can usually tell whether a song is deep or shallow from the bits and pieces I pick up). The album may bore those who are used to pop songs that are supposed to stay in your head the first time you listen to it (aka catchy in a poppy sense). Now days, I tend to prefer the albums that take longer to absorb though, and this album really satisfies my hunger. I guess you can call it an "adult" album more than it is a CD aimed toward the younger ones. You pretty much could not survive in the 80's if you can't sing, so obviously Alan did a wonderful job in his songs; he does all the songs justice, and perhaps even brings them to another level. The album even does a satisfactory job that most Asian albums seem to struggle with... creativity. It's nowhere near the level that, say, Tat Ming reached with their latest work, but it is miles ahead of another example, Joey Yung's Bi-heart. Perhaps I remembered wrong, but I think Alan originated in a rock band. In this album, he goes back to his roots if I'm correctly, and since this is only the second time I've heard his voice coupled with rock music, I'd say that rock suits him as much, if not more than, the slow songs he's famous for. I must admit, however, that this review was completed after only about three times through the album. I tend to pay close attention to everything besides lyrics the first few times through though, so I doubt my opinion would drastically change over the next week or so. That's why I didn't say anything about the longetivity about the album. PS: Maybe the album would be even better if he left out the short English phrases... |
