　　童年時代的朱青茂（童︰庹宗華成︰秦漢）目睹母親（李湘）與人通姦，對母親產生忌恨，父親更被母親的放蕩氣死，清茂因此憤而離家，投奔慈祥的吳伯母（張冰玉），與母親誓不兩立。

　　母親改嫁後多次想與清茂改善關係，但清茂避而不見，他對女人只有懷疑與憎恨，甚至對女友張玫中喜怒無常。在玫中與吳伯母的勸導下，清茂去旅館會見母親，偶見一個男人從房間走出，懷疑母親惡習未改，一怒而去，後來弄清是場誤會，母親卻已不願意見他。

　　清茂受吳伯母感動決定和玫中到南部探望母親，卻因母親陪表叔在醫院治病無緣見面。清茂畢業去成功嶺受訓，母親趕來見他，火車離開月台之際，母親因趕路被突來的車子撞到，帶來的橘子散落一地，留下清茂無助與黯然的吶喊。
