An Emotional Experience
|
Whenever I'm feeling down, I'd chuck this CD out of my CDcase and begin to listen to it from track #1. It gives me a sense of hope, and it's a wonder how the optimism of the songs just rubs off on you. I am emphatic about Ai Takaoka's voice. It's so...flawless, and mature sounding compared to many mainstream singers nowadays. Even though the lyrics might sound sappy to some, her voice contrasts the lyrics in a way to make it un-sappy, and absolutely wonderful. If it were any other singer, I'd probably wouldn't appreciate the lyrics nearly as much. If you're seeking a truly emotional experience, you MUST add this to your cart. It's worth all the money x 100000!! ----------------------------------------------------------- Even though I loved them all, there were 4 that truly stood out to me: #1, #2, #9, #10 ----------------------------------------------------------- The opening track, '#1 Jinsei wa Paradise', gave me the hope that life can be a paradise if I choose it to be. I love '#2 La La La' for the beautiful way in which Takaoka sings the song. '#9 Kimi no Soba de" gives off an overwhelming melancholy feeling that gets me teary eyed just listening to it. Finally, '#10 II Kanji no You & Me' is an upbeat song that rivals Jinsei wa Paradise, except that it gives me an indescribable urge to jump on my bed and dance. |

I agree with the previous reviewer...this CD is amazing. It has not come out of my car CD player since I bought it! Ai is the most unique Japanese singer I have heard of to date. She's incomparable. But, if she must be compared to someone, perhaps Vanessa Carlton (US) is the closest although she reminds me a bit of someone else even more and I'm drawing a blank as to who! She has no counterpart in Japanese music, but if you enjoy this (and you WILL), you would probably also enjoy "Hane" by KOTOKO , "Romeo" by Kato Izumi, and the newest release by ZARD...although neither come close to the sheer perfection of this CD. Track #1 is a mood-setting opener and sets the tone for the entire CD; A definate favorite. Track #2 is absolutely wonderful and another favorite as well. Track #3 is more heavy on instruments than the first two, but it's great for the rock lovers. Track #4 is another favorite and has an awesome beat that makes you sing along (even if you don't know what you are singing). Track #5 is also a powerful song with strong vocal and relatively heavy music. It shows Ai's strength of both singing ability and personality. Track #6 is a nice song that keeps up the quality of the CD. Track #7 is "Samarai Joker" and honestly doesn't make much sense, but it's OK for an easy, fun song. Track #8 is probably the slowest on the CD (there are no true ballads...this CD keeps moving the whole way through without slowing!) and is a nice break and perfectly placed. Track #9 is a nice more pop song placed between the mostly rock tracks...makes a nice transition and break. She has all her songs perfectly placed on this CD so that that the result is total balance. Track #10 is another heavy song for the rockers and will have you tapping your toes along to it. Track #11 ends the CD with the shortest song on the album and is a bit slower...it's a fabulous ending and leaves one with one word: MAGNIFICENT! Over all, this CD is absolutely wonderful. Ai has the nicest voice...it's a low soprano, so it's not too high, but just right for all registers and notes. She sings with her heart and you can tell a lot of effort went into this CD. If Ai continues this type of style and vocal talent and quality of production...she will have a long and HUGE career. If you are in doubt because she is a newcomer: doubt no more. Buy this and prepare to become addicted to a future Japanese superstar. She's NOT mainstream and far from ordinary, but not weird or anything. She's just barely different enough to be refreshingly unique and this CD is a gem. If you don't buy it, you are missing one of Japan's hidden treasures. True, Ai is mostly pop on this CD, but there is plenty of rock on there to keep you interested if that is more your style. She's not too light and fluffy (not at all...she's deep and meaningful) and not too heavy and noisy (not at all...she uses the music to her advantage whether it's pop or rock). It all blends into an album that will leave you wanting more. |

I LOVE THIS CD!
|
WOW. This has got to be the BEST CD I have purchased in all of 2004 releases (or at least tied with Kokia's "Uta ga Chikara")! This singer has a fabulous voice and I think her musical style is perfect. It's just my style: lots of quitar and lovely vocal arrangements. My least favorite song is "Samurai Joker", but even that one isn't too bad...just has too much English in it for my tastes. My favorite is "La La"...I could play it over and over and never tire of it. This is a MUST buy! I am so happy I bought this CD. I know I will play it endlessly. I also hope this singer puts out another CD soon (which is probably too much to ask since this one JUST came out!). She is perfect. A clear, strong soprano who really can sing and only needs that awesome quitar for her main instrumentalization. If you are looking for amazing music that is up-beat and just awesome: BUY THIS. You will not be dissapointed. It really is one of the best releases of the year...truly! Here's to a long career Ai! |
