One of Ma Jing Tao's best performances as a professional actor. This story explores the life of Nurhachi, the founder of the Qing dynasty, the last dynasty to rule China. In the series,the great warrior fell in love with five great ladies: Cin Yang (his first wife who bore him two sons, Ci Ying and Dai Shan); Tong Ge (the great love of his life); Mong Ge ( who sacrificed her happiness for the sake of her sister's, Tong Ge who was forced to marry Nurhachi by her eldest brother, the leader of the Yehe Nala clan- Empress Dowager Ci Xi's clan!!)); Na Chi Ya (who was married to the Chinese general, Lee Mu Bai and also the daughter of the tribal leader who murdered Nurhachi's father and granddad); and Abahai (who was famously ordered to commit suicide after the death of Nurhachi by the order of the four great Pei Lehs and also the mother of Duo Er Gun). Love was certainly not on his side!! Cin Yang who loved him dearly committed suicide for the sake of her son's succession, leaving him miserable; Tong Ge committing the same act because she could not forgive him for killing her two brothers; Mong Ge died because of her unhappiness (one of the famous lines in the story- I sacrificed myself for my sister's happiness by marrying that man; can't love him for the sake of my brothers' deaths by him; and for the sake of my son, I have to endure my unhappiness!! When will I ever do something for my own's sake?; Na Chi Ya sacrifing her family, Surgachi and their son by returning to her first husband, Lee Mu Bai so that the general would get distracted by her beauty (which he did until the Lee family was executed by the imperial government); and Abahai was never in love with him(she was in love with the leader of the Ula clan). The story certainly captivated its audience by the suspense and good story lines. Emotional displays were excellently delivered by the actors. One of the most memorable scenes was when his son, Ci Ying was sent to execution. Nurhachi didn't want to order the execution but he had already done it!! As his son leaving the palace, Nurhachi look at his back and tried to stop the order but he could not, knowing that the young man was guilty of trying to topple him!! The scene showed that no matter how great the man had been, he was still a human with feelings especially towards his own family!!. One of the great lines Nurhachi said to his son, Huang Tai Ji was ' Remember how to treat your brothers nicely. But, you are the most evil person that I have ever met. And yet, you are my son!! A must buy tv series!!! |
