One of Cantonese comedy’s most popular and familiar foundations was inspired by the apartment houses which cover Hong Kong. Writers, directors and stars were galvanized by the possibilities for social satire within those walls. Shaw Brothers raised the original groundbreaking The House Of 72 Tenants another ten to come up with this delightful, latter-day variation on the theme, featuring some of the studio’s best and brightest, including “Master Killer” Gordon Liu Chia-hui and “Venoms” Muscleman Lo Meng. The result is fascinating fun for comedy and kung-fu fans alike.

not really 82 tenants Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
The movie title is misleading cause it's not really 82 tenants being featured. More like the main group of 20.

I quite like the plot cause this sort of things do happen now and again. I bought the vcd version cause I wasn't sure how it'll pan out. The quality is not very clear. Bought this only because of Gordon Liu and would like to see him out of his kung-fu outfit for a change. Love the bit where he actually played the guitar (he CAN play) and the group of them sang the song in praise of the pregnant lady. Nice to see him teaming up with Kara Hui as his girlfriend and Ma Tak Lo (another regular in Liu Chia Liang's movies).
Just a light-hearted movie.

I didn't get it Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
Maybe it was just me, but I didn't get it. This fim is sort of a sequel to "House of 72 Tenants"", another Shaw flic made by the inimitable Chor Yuen just a decade before. While that movie made a real impression on me - this one merely left a bad aftertaste. The makers tried to emulate the style and story of the first movie; it centers around a group of tenants living in a housing block in modern day Hong Kong. Overall it's decently acted - with no one standing out. The jokes are mostly of the physical farting kind and give no insight into the living conditions of HK-people. Maybe it's because I am not Chinese and some of the jokes ar too outlandish for me, but it all just didn't add up. By the end I couldn't care less for any of the main characters and I was glad it was all over.
