The Brave Archer 2, directed by the legendary Cheng Cheh, is the second film based on Jin Yong’s classic martial arts novel The Eagle-Shooting Heroes, of which Wong Kar Wai’s Ashes of Time is loosely based on. This particular version used the material written by Jin Yong’s good friend and fellow novelist Ni Kuang while Jin was away, back when the story was published as a newspaper serial. Starring Alexander Fu Sheng stars as hero Guo Jing and Tanny Tian as Huang Rong, as Huang is about to be married to Ouyang Fung (Danny Lee) by her father, Guo has to do everything in his power to stop the planned wedding. With old feuds and new allies, this is one of the most beloved stories written by Jin Yong and considered one of the most important in Chinese modern literature. Alexander Fu, who was a rising star and beloved actor of Cheng at the time, was tragically killed in a car crash aged 29, and this film captured his amazing star quality before his untimely death.

　　This magnificent martial arts saga takes up where the renowned original left off: with our hero Kuo Tsing winning the hand of fair maiden Huang Yung. Almost immediately, however, clan rivalries in the "Martial Art World" leads to Kuo being wounded by Ouyang Fung and Huang being named new leader of the Beggar Clan.... International favorite Alexander Fu Sheng is back as Kuo, but Niu Niu shines in her show-stopping role as his betrothed.

WHATS MISSING ? Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
The second installement to the Brave Archer series is a mystery.Although the story, beautiful sets and the Venoms choreography is represented,there is still something missing from making this film have the same magical feel as Brave Archer 1 or even other 1978 vehicles made by this team such as Life Gamble and Invincible Shaolin.Almost all of the same actors come back to reprise their original roles, with the addition of Shirley Yu,Wei Pai,Sun Chien,Lin Chen chi and of course Lo meng in a bigger role in probably the films best fight scene against Fu Sheng.One of the most unfortunate events in the film is the abscence of Tien Niu,she broke her arm in pre production to this film and was replaced by Niu Niu, who in my opinion,acting wise,does not hold a candle to Tien's acting capabilities.But the film still has its moments,it just doesnt grab you the way the first one does.

The story had diversified... Too many characters were introduced and lack of a theme... Niu Niu is not as lively as Tien Niu (that in the first episode). Fu Sheng had not much chance to perform.
