Married in 2008 after a 20-year relationship, top Hong Kong stars Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Carina Lau first met at TVB over two decades ago, and their first drama together was the 1984 series The Clones. A rare sci-fi themed drama from TVB, The Clones was Carina Lau's first TV series while Tony Leung, already one of the studio's top young actors after Angels and Devils and Beyond the Rose Garden, was on the brink of breaking out. In that same year, Leung and Lau would go on to star in The Duke of Mount Deer and the first installment of Police Cadet, sealing their rise to stardom. As an early sign of Tony Leung's versatility and talents, he plays two characters in The Clones, one quiet and reserved, the other brash and humorous. This classic drama also co-stars Simon Yam, Stanley Fung, Au-Yeung Pui San, and Philip Chan.

Scientist Jiang (Philip Chan) dedicates all his time and heart to his cloning research, but his wife can't put up with him anymore. She divorces him and returns to Hong Kong, son in tow, not knowing that her husband had cloned their son. Years later, Jiang also moves to Hong Kong and opens a clinic. Through his partner Ching (Au-Yeung Pui San), Jiang meets a lonely young man named Ka Wai (Tony Leung), and eventually realizes that Ka Wai is actually his son's clone. Raised in an orphanage, Ka Wai is honest, gentle, and kind-hearted, the exact opposite of Jiang's troublemaking birth son. How will Jiang face his two sons, and what will Ka Wai do when he discovers the truth about his identity?

TSEUNG CHUN indulges himself in developing human cloning technology in the States and his wife wants to take their son away. CHUN creates a clone son CHEUNG KA WAI (Leung Chiu Wai) for her wife secretly while keeping the original son TSEUNG KA WAI (Leung Chiu Wai) with him. Later, CHUN brings TSEUNG back to Hong Kong and opens a clinic with CHING SHI WAH (Au Yeung Pui Shan).

Since his mother's death, he has been given into an orphanage and develops an introverted personality. With the encouragement of WAH, CHEUNG pursues CHUNG KIT YI (Lau Ka Ling) successfully. Cloning creates convenience for CHUN but it also allures him to commit crime.
