The Condemned

YesAsia Editorial Description

Screen favorite David Chiang directed and co-stars in The Condemned, a gritty revenge tale presented in classic Shaw Brothers fashion! Feng (Choi Wang) is newly-hired guard who gets framed for the murder of his former employer. The true culprits, an evil triad gang led by Mr. Sheng (Goo Fung), want to take care of Feng in prison, but Feng is befriended by a sly pickpocket named Yang Lin (David Chiang). Together, the two escape prison, but Yang Lin and girlfriend Lee Lai Lai are captured and tortured by Mr. Sheng and his gang. It's up to Feng to save his friend, rout the villains, and exact revenge! A classic revenge storyline highlighted with bone-crunching kung-fu action, and a spectacular final duel between Choi Wang and Goo Fung, The Condemned cements David Chiang's reputation as both a fine actor and an accomplished director in the same mold as his mentor, celebrated director Chang Cheh!

David Chiang teams up with Chang Cheh’s acclaimed screenwriter Ni Kuang (written over 300 screenplays) to continue his epic “heroic brotherhood” caricature in his second directed feature The Condemned. In the film, Chiang plays a righteous character who helps an unjustly imprisoned swordsman accused of stealing. Together they break out of prison and serve notice to all the evil men in their lives that a new deadly duo is in town.

Superb fight choreography Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
The plot is paper thin, but the action is awesome in this unevenly paced, but involving revenge flick. Choi Wang is the action hero in "The Condemned" and he is one ferocious dude. David Chiang's acting and directing are light and engaging. Recommended for all fans of action films.

Suprise Sleeper... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I was suprised this was so good ! David took a gamble & did not play the starring roll this time. His choice with casting was an excellent one. Each actor & actress shined and played their role exceptionally well.

I enjoyed the fighting in the house towards the end.

The cute parts with David Chiang & Lily Li were endearing . Always love it when David plays a charactor, he always was me rollin'.

This movie surprised me , I liked it ! Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This movie was directed by super star David Chiang. He casts himself as a down and out pickpocket thief. He always seems to look younger than he really actually is, which made his role so believable and charming. He sure has alot of presence and charisma on screen, and he aways steals the show in whatever movie I've seen him in. David and the cast worked wonderfully well together, Pak Ying's Kung Fu was really good, he aways plays the bad guy exceptionally well.Lily Li again played David's love interest, they are very convincing...this was the first time I've seen them KISS...and it was nice. I'd recommend this film to others, my friends also thought it was good. Ku Feng's kung fu fighting was nice and long, so I think viewers would enjoy this. Pick it up !

Wonderful Direction by David Chiang Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This was a 1976 movie directed by Action Hero David Chiang. This movie was very, very good! Good plot, fighting and action. David Chiang's character is very different from the character he normally plays in Chang Cheh films. In this movie, his character doesn't have any kung fu skills, he plays a young theft, stealing from the gangsters to help the poor and needy.
Lily Li plays his girlfriend, the moments when they are together are very moving. David Chiang indeed shows that he is a great director as well as an actor. This movie is wonderful, two thumbs up !!!
