The Drummer Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (OST) (New Version)

Written and directed by Kenneth Bi (Rice Rhapsody), The Drummer combines the unlikely themes of triads and zen drumming into a rousing, beat-filled journey of personal growth. Jaycee Chan (Invisible Target) stars as the rash and rebellious Sid, who is forced to go into hiding after he crosses a mob boss (Kenneth Tsang). While his triad leader father (Tony Leung Ka Fai) sorts things out in Hong Kong, Sid loafs around angrily in Taiwan until he stumbles upon a group of zen drummers in the mountains. An aspiring musician himself, Sid joins the troupe, and finds himself slowly molded by a strict regiment of martial arts training and disciplined living. Angelica Lee (Re-Cycle) co-stars as a fellow drummer and Sid's love interest.

Bi was inspired to make this film after he saw a zen drumming performance by Taiwan's U Theatre six years ago. He sought out the troupe to learn more about their art and way of living, and enlisted them for his film. Like the roles they portrayed on screen, U Theatre's drummers train vigorously in the mountains practicing drumming, meditation, and martial arts. Their remarkable drumming can be heard in the film and in The Drummer soundtrack. In addition, Bi also invited German composer Andrew Matthias to score the film and renowned Hong Kong celloist Trey Lee for the soundtrack's stirring cello solos.
