It's a must watch
This series is based on the most popular of Jin Yong's novels, so comparatively, many adaptations have been created. This is definitely the best one I have seen yet. Both Andy and Tony's performance was superb. Personally, I don't really like the character of Wai siu bo, but I admire his loyalty and I think that is partially why he is able to impress his many wifes into staying. Also, this series follows very closely to the novel so I would definitely reccomend it.

Cup of tea
Cup of tea
I enjoyed this series tremendously when it first came out but subsequent viewing... a year ago....mmmmm....I wondered what I saw back then...the last viewing found Tony Leung's performance aggravating...perhaps I'm getting a bit old for this style of acting. Not my cup of tea anymore.

Womanizer
Womanizer
I had a hard time finishing this series. I appreciated his loyaties, however it was diminished by his womanizing. What makes it even more unbeleivable was that these women actually stayed. What's up with that? Was he the original Moran's Faith man?

The Duke of Mount Deer was one of best TVB productions. I first saw this when I was a little kid and have seen this series over and over. The story is about a small-town guy (Tony Leung) who is quite despicable and selfish but his luck carries him through various adventures. He ends up in the palace and eventually became the King's (Andy Lau) best friend. It's a wonderful drama and comedy with an outstanding all-star cast. To answer the ignorant comment posted by pagan... this TV series is nearly 20 years old! Andy Lau was a nobody back then and this was his first TV series where he got his big break. |

Brilliant
Brilliant
This is an excellent drama..really 80s and it is good to see dramas like this based in 1984..I really enjoyed it..and both of them, a truly inspiration of hk movie stars,..wow..till this day forward, they have done a good job and still now, just as excellent..they both deserve to be both top male actors..worth getting and I would keep this as a collection and watch it all over again and again...you don't get bored of this..

A Must-Have!!
A Must-Have!!
Finally on dvd complete with English subtitles! This 10 disc boxset is uncut, with all 40 episodes of the now-famous series included. The dvd quality is excellent, with terrific sound and picture quality. Subtitles are removeable and available in Chinese and English. The dvd menus are only in Chinese though, so it takes a bit of maneuvering to figure out where you want to go. There is an episode index on each disc. For fans of either Andy Lau or Tony Leung this is a must-have collection. It's also cool to see many other "before they were famous" stars, such as Francis Ng and Lau Ching Wan in minor (and multiple) roles. The story closely follows the books and moves at a fast pace. This was definitely one of the best purchases I've made at Yesasia. I was not disappointed, and I'm sure you won't be either.

excellent, funny
This tv series was one of it's best in it's time and still is. The Duke of Mount Deer staring Tony Leung, & Andy Lau two most gratest actors of the hong kong film industy. This series will make you watch it over and over again and it will still be funny after time after time. It has elements of sadness, happiness.Wei Xiuo Bao (Tony Lenug) has to make desions between friendship and loyalty. Emperor kang xi (Andy Lau)makes Xiuo Bao chosse between him or tian di wu.

BRILLIANT, HILARIOUS, UNFORGETTABLE
2 superstars of current HK cinema showing why they are so great. This is one of the funniest, most entertaining and moving TV series TVB has made. Tony cracks me up every single time i watch the 'duke of mountaindeer'...[even up to the 9th time...so far] Andy also puts in a great turn as Kang Xi the brilliant, responsible yet cheeky emperor.
