Director Zhou Xiaowen brings an epic tale of China's first Emperor to the screen in The Emperor's Shadow. Jiang Wen (The Sun Also Rises) stars as King Ying Zheng (Qinshihuang), who strives to conquer all of China and rule it beneath his iron hand. But giving China identity requires more than a unified ruler. Ying Zheng wants one form of currency, one written language, and even a single anthem to represent his beloved China. To compose an anthem fit for a king, Ying Zheng enlists his childhood friend Gao Jianli (Ge You, The Banquet), who once was like a brother to Ying Zheng. But the years have driven a wedge between the two men, and Jianli is more likely to sympathize with assassin Jing Ke, who desires the King's head. When Ying Zheng conquers Jianli's home territory and brings the musician before him to compose his anthem, a battle of wills between the two proud men begins...
