YesAsia Editorial Description

Considered one of the classics of Chinese cinema, The Fate of Lee Khan is a stunning martial arts film from one of the genre's true masters, director King Hu! Lee Khan (Tien Feng) is a Mongolian prince who is rumored to be arriving at a remote inn to obtain a secret war map. But the Chinese rebels learn of his appearance and plot to kill him. On the fateful day of his supposed arrival, numerous characters - some bearing potentially dangerous secrets - make their way in and out of the inn. Among them are the innkeeper (Li Lihua), who has hired four new waitresses - who just so happen to be assassins! But Lee Khan has his own protectors, including a group of bodyguards and a beautiful Princess (Hsu Feng), who may be more skilled with the blade than the assassins! As the players continue to arrive, the situation grows more tense and more loaded...until bloodshed is inevitable! King Hu expertly weaves an involving and intricate web of characters and motives, each taking on fascinating complexity and authentic-seeming life. Featuring marvelous action sequences and a large cast of well-known Hong Kong Cinema names, The Fate of Lee Khan qualifies as a must-see for fans of this unique Hong Kong Cinema genre!

Beware! Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
I had never see this celebrated movie, so I bought the DVD, never imagining I would go on without seeing it! The DVD in question is unwatchable! It is flat, with a squared frame not respecting the original widescreen ratio, the images have no depth and are fuzzy, and the color is poor. Maybe The Fate of Lee Khan is a very good movie, the fate of the buyer of this DVD is not having an opportunity to know.

great film, shame about the DVD Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
I'd give the film itself about 8 or 9 stars, but this DVD gets only 2. This was the first King Fu film I ever saw, and it blew me away - the beginning is played for laughs and then it switches to deadly action-drama with a last half hour of unparalleled tension. Also, back in the 1970s, when I saw it, I'd never before seen so many women in action roles. But consumers beware! The DVD under review is extremely shoddy - fuzzy image, bad sound, the image is badly cropped and the Chinese and English subtitles are burnt on to the screen and cannot be removed. It looks as though it was filmed off a TV screen! I suppose I can't complain because you get what you pay for and this disc is extremely cheap, and until a decent copy comes along I guess it'll have to do. DVD manufacturers take note - there are a lot of English-speaking King Hu fans out there! (How about The Valiant Ones, please?)

Excellent acting Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I particularly enjoy the acting talent from all the stars in this movie. Everyone did their part so appropriately well. The movie moves fast and there is no dull moment. Although this is not one of King Hu's best products, it is fairly entertaining and watchable. Veteran actress Li Lihua shows her versatility and despite her age, does not compare unfavorably in appearance with the other younger and fresher faces.

Good action movie Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Ying Chun Ge Zhi Feng Bo, aka The Fate of Lee Khan, is an excellent King Hu style action movie of the '70s with a wonderful veteran cast of Li Lihua, Roy Chiao Hong, Tien Feng, Wu Jian Xiang, Xu Feng. Every character in this movie is a story and there is no dull moment. The acting is flawless --- one just loves those eye and head signals. I highly recommend this movie to those who love Director King Hu even though the quality of the dvd is not top-notch and I am not sure if it has been remastered. My copy (same publisher) purchased from elsewhere does have English and Chinese subtitles.
