Created by Type-Moon founders Nasu Kinoko and illustrator Takeuchi Takashi, The Garden of Sinners (a.k.a. Kara no Kyoukai) started out in 1998 as an internet light novel. The supernatural fantasy attracted a huge online following and eventually made it to print form, selling over 500,000 copies. Set in the same world as Type-Moon's Tsukihime, The Garden of Sinners revolves around the investigation of paranormal incidents by the trio of sorceress and detective agency proprietor Aozaki Tohko, her assistant Kokuto Mikiya, and Ryogi Shiki, a detached teenage girl with the ability to see and kill death.

Starting in 2007, The Garden of Sinners began its life on the big screen as a seven-chapter animated film series with animation by ufotable, the studio behind the Tales of Symphonia OVA. Directed by Aoki Ei, the first chapter, Fukan Fukei (a.k.a. Overlooking View), hit theaters on December 1, 2007. The series kicks off with the mysterious occurrence of high school girls suddenly jumping to their death from tall buildings. There are no indications of murder and yet no reasons for suicide. Tohko and Shiki muse that the view from above, being too close to the other world, can do strange things to your mind. Especially interested in the case, Mikiya investigates on his own, but he too gets drawn too close to the skies.

朝地墜落的少女之夢

斬斷俯瞰的直死之眼


在某個初夏的日子，有個人來到兩儀式的家中。他叫黑桐幹也，每天都會固定帶慰勞品來給一人獨居的式，雖然式覺得很困擾，但她還是開門讓黑桐進來。

就在同一段時間，發生了一連串的少女跳樓自殺事件。
案發現場都是已化為廢墟的建築物，而過去曾經是這座城市之象徵的巫條大樓…頂樓也出現一名浮遊少女。

這些自殺的少女，不論是就讀的學校或家境都不相同，彼此也都不認識，完全找不到他們要自殺的原因以及任何關聯性。這究竟是意外還是人為事件？當媒體大肆報導著這幾起事件時，有個人發現了唯一而且是絕對的共通性。那個人就是蒼崎橙子，她是住在一個被稱為「伽藍之堂」處所的人偶師。

自殺案件已經發生了第五起。

因為被橙子的人偶所吸引，黑桐開始以助手的身分幫忙橙子工作。沒想到黑桐卻迷戀上孤獨的「她」，最後甚至陷入昏迷。
另一方面，擁有能夠看出生物破綻與死線之超能力「直死之魔眼」的式，因為很久沒看到黑桐而很不開心。當式來到巫條大樓時…在那裡等待著的居然是「她」，式為了切斷對方的死線而陷入苦戰，最後甚至犧牲了自己的義肢。

雖然橙子對式的這種行為感到無法理解，但她仍替式換上了新義肢。不久，式再次與「她」陷入對峙，式的態度雖然相當冷靜且大膽，但內心其實充滿了憤怒。
就這樣，式為了黑桐，以及為了自己對黑桐的那份情感，手持尖刀往前奔去。

「她」的名字叫巫條霧繪，擁有能夠四處浮遊的自己，以及另一個只能望著窗外的自己，是個悲慘的「雙重存在」。
橙子到醫院探望霧繪之後才發現，原來有人給了她第二個身體。
但是，目前仍不知道對方目的為何……
