The Girlie Bar DVD Region 3

Melodrama and exploitation get combined for The Girlie Bar, a popular Shaw Brothers film with skin, sin, and even some social discourse. Yeh Feng plays a widower forced to employ his three beautiful daughters as prostitutes to make ends meet. His daughters take to their sordid profession in varying ways, but the youngest Fen (Lin Chen Chi) wants out of the life, and demonstrates it by refusing to sleep with an old drunk. To reward her for her integrity, her father whips her! Possible salvation comes in the form of a rich college boy, but will Fen's past ruin any chance for love? Meanwhile, middle daughter Yan (Chen Ping) is pregnant and abandoned, and eldest Hong (Helen Ko) is a widow who must raise her son while still working for her dear old dad! The bar has a variety of other stories, but nearly all point the sad and cruel vagaries of fate which lead people to lead such desperate lives. Plus there's sex and seduction, and more than a little skin. The Girlie Bar may be more than a skin flick, but it doesn't shy away from exploitation elements, making this an alternately affecting and titillating Hong Kong movie.

　　老蓋在窮途末路之際，開設酒帘以三個女兒出賣色相還債。然而，一連串的風波又相繼向酒帘衝擊而來。

　　「酒帘」為七十年代香港流行的色情架步，電影寫出現實奇情。導演羅馬成功寫出七十年代慾海浮沉之眾生色相。

　　In this tearjerker, The Girlie Bar is basically an allegorical tale that follows the plight of the Chinese woman and the way they are treated by males in Chinese society. It's about a widower that forces his three beautiful daughters to work in his seedy bar and must do what they are told no matter what. The film features Lin Chen-chi who had just starred in Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold.
