It should be a 5-star!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I agreed with other reviewers about the deleted scenes. Even though I am some what disappointed too, I never feel regret about buying it!

Great series but TVB have cut it to pieces Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
This is one of my favourite classics - just loved it when I watched years ago. Loved the cast, the story the ending etc......, so when it came out on DVD I bought it straight away. BUT I have to warn all potential buyers, TVB have editted this to pieces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Various parts have been cut out to the point the plot is totally destroyed. The ending has also been cut.
I can't express how angry I was after paying for this!!!! I have no idea what TVB were thinking when they edited this.

bad Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
I totally agree with other viewers of this movie that there are some deleted scenes. I too saw this series many years ago and I agree that the ending of this set is not the real ending as shown on VHS. Just by looking at the theme song scenes that appear at the begining of each episode, there are scenes shown there that don't appear at all in the movie.

Waste of money Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
There are alot of scene deleted in the dvd set. And the bad thing is the ending of this dvd is being cut. The best part of the whole serie is the ending. In this case, the ending part is cut. If TVB wants us to continue to support them, they better produce a uncut and complete dvd set version for the customer to buy. Hope they will have a new edition dvd box set of the "Grand Canal". Waste of money if i buy this serie since everyone tell me not to buy it because the ending is cut. We should petition to TVB to discontinue to produce a cut dvd serie.Unfortunately, when i heard the ending is cut, i didnt bother to buy it.As i recall, the original ending of the "Grand Canal" is the best part out of the whole serie.

Scenes Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
I have seen this series back in the 1980s. As far as I recall the original uncut version has 60 episodes. The story is strong and the cast fantastic. This version has 58 episodes! No need to say that by cutting out scenes does not clarify some things in the story. I recommend not to buy this version since you will end up with an unsatisfied feeling. For Vietnamese viewers I recommend buying the dubbed version in Vietnamese edited by Taiseng, which has 60 episodes, uncut! Alternatively, you can buy the VHS version.

TVB makes ppl sad... Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
Although I'm very happy to see some old series on DVD, I'm also with out words. Once again TVB managed to produce some BAD products. Watching al those cripled episodes make me feel angry and sad.
Don't understand why TVB keeps CUTTING their series... it's unbelievable... Personally I don't recommend ppl to buy them and all other DVD's that are edited. I also bought The Return Of The Condor Heroes and I'm afraid this review applies there as well....

many cut scenes Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
I've so long awaited the arrival of this series for awhile now. But sad to say, it stinks! I'm only on the THIRD chapter, and I don't know exactly what scenes are cut but judging from how confused I am when a scene comes up, and it doesn't make sense because a different scene hasn't happened yet, (I've seen the VHS), it's not worth your money!!! It shouldn't have even been editted in the first place! If you can, look long and hard for someone with the VHS. The VHS version is SO much better!!!

BAD EDITING! Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
As with other loyal fans, I waited for a long time for this release... to my disappointment, I can't believe TVB CUT OUT the ending!!!

What was an epic story butchered down to some watered down efforts... not really doing the series or actors/actresses in it any favors!
Part of China history abused!

And to think I spent more than US$100 on this!!!

Why Cut If On DVD??? Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
I've seen this series on VHS before and really liked it. The way they edit DVD doesn't make sense and the edited ending really throws me off since I feel there should be more. Not really a great buy for those of you that saw it on VHS. If you've never seen it before then it's not a bad series to own. Final words would be buyer beware.

Has anyone compare the movie with VHS tape back in the 80's yet? Is it really complete, any comments before I buy the whole series?
