Great hostorical series
| This is a really great historical drama that showcases good story writing and usually great superb acting. Camera work, lighting and costume are all generally first rate. The story is very engaging and will leave you breathless for more or at least a break while you re-center. Wonderful. Yes it is available out of San Francisco China town with English subtitles and can be found usually on E-something dot com (you know the vast market for selling) at great price. I am a big fan of period dramas and can be quite harsh on less that enjoyable versions or attempts. This is well worth the price to enjoy such thoughtful production. While clearly not all details are accurate to History who cares as long as it improves the story line. After all writers make history not events. |

wo xin chang dan
| One of my top 10: The Three Kingdoms, Yong Zheng Wang Chao, Water's Margin, Han Wu Da Di, Zheng Guan Chang Ke, Da Ming Wang Chao1566, Dead Men do tell tales I, Dead Men Do Tell Tales II, Wo Xin Chang Dan, and one more to go...(Compare this with another tv drama of the same historic event, Yue Wang Gou Jian, featuring Chen Bao Guo. Both actors are superb, but Chen Daoming's version is enriched with a multi-dimensional script, whereas the other one is ruined by an anticlimatic ending that gives one a sense of unsatisfaction.) All episodes in the film are packed with stories.Costumes, atmosphere, settings, cinematography and music are very impressive and deserve fine appreciation. Chen Daoming is at his best, playing a proud king whose tense countenance partially reveals a tortured, tempestuous mind under measured controll, whose face ,although serene and kind after his long ordeal in Wu, masks the inward burning desire for revenge. Great, unsurpassed acting. All actors shine through their roles except the actress who plays Xi Shi. She appears to be wooden and unimaginative, perhaps she is at a loss how to personify one of ancient China's paragons in beauty, just looks is not enough. Watching this drama keeps one emotionally drained. What an impact. The story of King Gou Jian makes one strong, endure the unendurables. It will also appease you if you harbour anger towards LIFE. |
