YesAsia Editorial Description

A remake of the Japanese horror hit JU-ON (widely considered to be one of the scariest movies ever made), THE GRUDGE is helmed by its original director Takeshi Shimizu. Like its predecessor, this Hollywood version of the film takes place in Tokyo, but most of the main characters are American, including Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER), a young social worker, and her peers. When Karen enters a seemingly abandoned home to look after a mentally disturbed resident, she soon discovers that there's an evil--and very aggressive--presence in the house, and it's lashing out at every person that sets foot inside. Having directed both the original JU-ON and its sequel in Japan, Shimizu was very familiar with his own tale of terror by the time he directed its 2004 incarnation. Using many of the key actors from the previous films (including Takako Fuji and Yuya Ozeki who have unforgettable roles), Shimizu recreates the story with the added advantage of a Hollywood budget (acquired with the help of producer Sam Raimi of SPIDER-MAN fame, who is also a noted horror-movie director). As with many Japanese horror films (particularly the original RING, which strongly influences this movie), THE GRUDGE relies on atmosphere over plot, resulting a series of utterly chilling moments that will leave viewers fascinated and unbelievely frightened.

"THE GRUDGE varies the program some by occasionally getting its apparitions out of the central digs to make mischief elsewhere." - Mike, Clark (USA Today Critic), USA Today, 10/22/2004

"[Gellar] is surprisingly good as a harrowed heroine..." - Kim, Newman (Sight And Sound Critic), Sight and Sound, 12/01/2004

"[M]ostly it's just Raimi and Shimizu gleefully delivering the B-movie basics: sudden jumps, shocks, bangs, screams, eye-poppers and gore shots, and at a rate that's thick and fast enough to satisfy the most jaded horror fan." - Kevin, Maher (Film Critic), Uncut, 12/01/2004

3 stars out of 5 -- "Shimizu retains the Tokyo setting and most of the spooky details..." - David, MIller (Ultimate DVD Critic), Ultimate DVD, 10/01/2006

Wow... Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
The grudge, I saw this Japanese version before this movie. The Japanese version was scary. Well. I was surprise that they are gonna make a 'remake version'
So. I saw this movie at my friend's house.
The Grduge was horrible. I scared juse 2 times in this movie. For your information. The Ring remake version was much scarier to me.
Anyway, The movie was so boring, and I have no clue that US make a remake one. I hope not they are gonna make a second one.

i love japanese horror films. i brought the DVD the Grudge and it was not scary.it makes this werid nosie ( deep, aaahhh) .Japanese horror films are not scary every japanese film that i see ( ring0,ring 1 and ring 2 plus the grudge) the japanese horror films that i always see is the person crawing then there the face get cover by their hair so that you cannot see the face and then they make a werid noise not scary. but i still love it! i think the father that drown his 4 year old son in the bathroom is so nasty, Toshi is werid he does not talk and then he make's a cat noise that very werid. i think Michelle Gellar Sarah speaks good japanese oh... yeah i 4got to tell u that i will learn japanese ( im very intrested in japanese stuff)

Even Though The Original Ju-On:The Grudge Is More Terrifying Than The US Version " The Grudge ".This Movie Is More Focus On The Story And You'll Understand What Really Happen In That House.I Don't Want To Spoil The Movie So If You Haven't Watch This Film.I Suggest You Should And It's Better To Watch It In A Any Loud Surround Sound So You Can Even Enjoy The Beauty Of Horror Films. You Dig!...Don't Get Scared Now Hahahaha
