　　白色戀人渡假屋（搞鬼小築）就開在著名渡假勝地輕井澤的後山，然而開業數星期都不見人跡．還被一群到當地作研修旅行的神婆教徒，指渡假屋被靈體依附；翌日，首個客人在狂風暴雨下的晚上到達，這個失意的孤獨人最後更在房屋內自殺。惟恐這不祥事會扼殺渡假屋的前途，眾人決定把屍體埋葬在後山。
　　這間搞鬼小築 連續發生了許多離奇怪事，令到正男等人十分慌張，但在過程之中亦產生了許多笑話。最後，命運會否幫助他們，克服那些意外和不幸呢？

　　The story begins with the family opening their guesthouse in the mountains behind the famous summer resort town of Karuizawa. After several quiet weeks without a single guest, their troubles begin a group of passing psychics tell the Katakuris that their house is cursed and doomed. The next night, during a storm, the first guest arrives in the dark. A depressed and lonely man, he commits suicide in the room. Afraid that the notoriety could kill the business before it even starts, the family hastily buries the body in the woods behind the house.
　　But the next guest went dead too, and so is the next one... Will the Katakuris find happiness together in their idyllic mountain guest house, despite all the bodies piling up in the back-yard? Or will Fate expose their fumbling, bumbling attempts to hide the unfortunate little accidents?

This film is wild but very funny. I enjoy that kind of unexpected but silly humours. I'm a big fan of Kenji Sawada. Although he didn't look too hot in the film, you could still feel his charisma in the singing scenes. Overall the casts are likable and the film is entertaining.

as much as i admire miike's more disciplined stuff like "audition", "katakuris" just sent me over the edge! it has over the top performances from an ALL-STAR cast, gloriously spoofing themselves, fighting, loving, singing and dancing together as only a family can! then there's that cute little white dog, POCHI! ... What exactly is cut from the US 90-min edition?

Quite good DVD for awesome Miike movie Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
The Happiness of Katakuris is a comedy musical about what makes a family happy. As already seen, Miike has strong believes upon the union of love and family (Bizita Q is a great example), this movie is no exception, and like the rest of his films, he tries to develope this classic idea with a crazy ritual of funny stupidity.

I won't judge the technical quality of the movie as it's clear the low budget that Miike works with, but I shall recall that sometimes the cheapest can get the best (or a rather good) effect.

The DVD release is good enough not to harm the vision of the movie, but isn't any wonder. The telecine seems to have some problems, but it's ok compared to the average HK DVD quality. At least, runs 23 minutes longer than the USA version (HK DVD = 113 min. USA DVD = 90 min.).

This is a takashi miike film, a rollercoaster-ride into fun, fantasy and wickedness. Not a yakuza film, but as musical. Miike lovers will love this movie beacause of it`s diversity. This is miike like you`ve never seen before. Singing, dancing and killing. A must have for miike-fans.
