Choi Ji Woo, star of the mega-popular TV drama Winter Sonata and the 2004 comedy Everybody Has Secrets, takes on the lead role in The Hole, a pulse-pounding 1997 thriller about love, lies, and sordid family secrets. Alternatively titled The Trap and The Snare, this suspense-filled potboiler focuses its rapt attention on the beautiful Su Jin (Choi Ji Woo), a blushing bride enjoying her seemingly wonderful new life with her devoted, caring husband, Dong Woo (Park Yong Woo, from Musa: The Warrior and Shiri). As time passes, Su Jin slowly comes to realize that her husband's relationship with his mother may not seem as innocent as she first thought. Devoting and loving son that Dong Woo is, there's still something horribly creepy about how he and his mother relate to one another. Even worse, Jin Suk despises her new daughter-in-law, believing her to be nothing more than a silly little plaything used to occupy her son's time. While Dong Woo swears that Su Jin is his number one concern, his responsibilities at work begin to keep him away from home, a fact that provides Jin Suk the perfect opportunity to strike! Overcome with rage and jealously, the vindictive mother-in-law hatches a plot to take out Su Jin, a woman she immediately views as a rival for her son's precious affections! A twisted, fatal game breaks out between the two, but who will walk away the winner? The Hole earned Choi Ji Woo Best Newcomer acting prizes at the 21st Golden Film Awards and the 1998 Baek Sang Arts Awards, and is one thriller not to be missed.
