If ever a film existed that should be a cult classic based on its title alone, it would have to be The Holy Virgin Versus - The Evil Dead! Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen headlines this over-the-top creature feature about a mysterious creature that devours young, nubile, and usually naked women! Everyone thinks Donnie did it, but he knows better. To prove his innocence and kick some monster tail, he and his friends join forces with a comely Cambodian witch doctor (Pauline Yeung Bo Lin). After that, it's a race to find and finish the monster, with a few time-outs for encounters with evil henchman, crocodiles, carnivorous fish, and finally a backwards tribe that worships the depraved creature. They're just in time too, because the monster is about to go on another rampage and it's eyeing the usual targets: young, nubile, and usually naked women! | I am always suprised by East Asian cinema. Mainly because the creativity and acting useally never coincide. Actually, direction and typecasting seem to be hand and hand. Even today I have yet to see film portrayed from East Asian with as much depth and profoundness as director Akira Kurosawa. I think the use of color and special effects has distracted our essence of humankind in developing a profound character. In relation to this film, I am a little disappointed in the synopsis and how it may have originated from the Japanimation from "Right Stuf" titled Holy Virgins. Despite reglious influence and the hentai genre at least I think the Animation of today is better preceived in terms of supernatural or superhuman characterization. Mostly because I beleive real life situation should be played by real life actors, and the rest of creative screenwriting left to the imagination of Animation. |

Excellent Film
| This movie was a lot of fun to watch. I am a Lo Wai-Kwong fan and his acting and the stunts were great. Donnie Yen was also quite fabulous as well. This is a must see the fighting was wonderful! |
