A landmark Shaw Bros. classic
| It's easy to see why Hong Kong viewers embraced this nostalgic portrait of a dilapidated tenement, its dastardly landlords, and destitute dwellers. Featuring a superb cast in a wide array of well-drawn roles, the film expertly balances melodrama and comedy. Particularly striking to the contemporary viewer are the images of crime and corruption that appear to have been a common feature of the era depicted. |

The Best Shaw Comedy
| This is the best comedy film from Shaw. It broke all box office history before Bruce Lee films. |

The Best Comedy from Shaw
|
Another one by director Chu Yuan, HK's most versatile and under-rated film director, he actually made more films than Chang Cheh and more successful and varieties too, this film revived the Cantonese films genre and smashed all box office in HK during its time, until Bruce Lee arrived. Too bad, all the DVDs info don't show what are the special features, if any. |
