The Invincible Sword (Hong Kong Version) VCD

Jimmy Wang Yu (One-Armed Swordsman) portrays General Yue Fei, one of China's greatest national heroes, in this 1971 epic from director Xu Zeng Hong (The Twin Swords). The legend of Yue Fei has been a favorite of the Chinese people since the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279), and - while the movie takes some liberties with Yue's story - the overall tone is one of extreme reverence. Adding to The Invincible Sword's prestige is the presence of the lovely Xu Feng (A Touch of Zen, Legend of the Mountain). Director King Hu's favorite leading lady, Xu starred in some of the stateliest wuxia movies of all time.

In 1127, Jurchen armies overrun the Chinese capital of Kaifeng, taking the emperor hostage. The Song dynasty reestablishes itself in the south of China under a new monarch and sends General Yue Fei on a campaign to retake the northern territories. A popular leader, brilliant strategist, and loyal servant of the Chinese cause, Yue Fei's mission to crush the Jurchen is all but accomplished when he receives sudden orders to retreat. If Yue Fei were to successfully rescue the former emperor, the new one would be out of a job, and a conspiracy is hatched to abort Yue's campaign and have him arrested for treason. Yue's many followers beg their leader to defy the corrupt new leadership, but the ever loyal general refuses to disobey orders. As Yue awaits execution, his men plan a daring rescue.

During the Southern Sung Dynasty, General Ngok Fei was summoned back to the Imperial City from the war front ,where his army is about to crash the Chins in a decisive battle. Minister Chun Kui soon has framed and kept under house custody at the Tai Lei Temple. Swordfighters from everywhere arrived in an attempt to save General Ngok. However, their plan leaked out because they were trailed by two spies. In a hasty move, they stormed the temple, but suffered heavy casualties. With the help from Sung's family, Ling at last sneaked into the prison and met General Ngok face to face. But the latter, thinking he would be given a fair trail before the law, refused to leave the prison. Ling knocked him out and handed him over to Sung. Ling entered the temple again to save Sung's sister who's being molested. While doing so, he was fatally wounded. He soon died on the spot. Eventually, General Ngok came around, got himself free from the Sung's grip, and dashed into the temple.
