Aired in 2003 on PTS, Taiwanese drama The Legend of Eileen Chang recounts the life of this amazing woman, with acclaimed actress Rene Liu in the starring role. The Legend of Eileen Chang begins in the latter years of Chang's life when she is living in the United States and, with the flipping of photos, takes the audience back to the 1940s Shanghai and the unforgettable romance of Chang's youth.

The Legend of Eileen Chang is NOT to be missed

Eileen Chang is one of the most important writers of the Chinese modern literature. Her life coincided with the turbulent Chinese history at that time. Her own noble yet tragic family background not only influenced her writing but also formed at least partly her unique eccentricity. I was delighted to see Rene (Ruo Ying) Liu plays her in this wonderfully written drama. Also, Chao Wen Hsuan of the "Wedding Banquet" fame plays her beau. They are both excellent in it. The setting and the music are superb as well. I only wish at a few places, no music (or singing) would be even better. However, the title music is great. We should not find faults of Eileen as a person, rather, celebrate her works with gratitude and respect her courage to survive with appreciation. You will not regret owning this collection. |

| Slow boring, who cares about her "romance" with a 65 year old white man. It is probably considered fashinable to for talented Chinese women to fall for any white man who looks at them. |

very good movie
| I like it very much. Just like the other movie "April on earth" by the same script writer, however this one is even more close to life than that one. I also like the piano soundtrack. |
