The Legendary Lord Shek (a.k.a. The Emperor's Uncle) tells a Chinese folk tale about an aristocrat who reaches out to help alleviate the plight of the masses. Adapted from a classical "xiang sheng", a peculiar art form in traditional Chinese culture consisting of only dialogue, the period drama follows the legendary Lord Shek for 100 days. By bloodline the emperor's uncle, he prefers to enjoy life outside of the palace, resolving disputes among the common people and punishing corrupt local officials. Taiwanese actor Lee Li Chun, from acclaimed titles like Edward Yang's The Terrorizer, takes up the legendary role of Lord Shek. The cast also includes famous Hong Kong actor Danny Lee, who exhibited his charm in John Woo's The Killer, and actress Tanny Tien.

明萬歷十二年，神宗喜得第二子，因年輕任性，欲廢長立幼。廷議一出，頓時引起滿朝武兩派之間的尖銳衝突。據說，先皇賜予碩二爺的「癢癢撓」裡藏有解決立儲之爭的密詔，於是皇上急詔閑居民間的碩二爺進宮，以解立儲之爭。

碩二爺是一個為百姓所擁戴的傳奇人物，不在朝野，百問政事，整天騎驢游走民間，盡管些民間的蠅頭小事兒。進宮的路程只需兩個時辰，但二大爺卻足足走了一百天，他以特殊的方式勸諫皇上關心民間疾苦，故意拖，藉此給皇上思索和友省的時間。最後，他成功進宮，並揭開了「癢癢撓」中先皇的密詔，化解了一場危機，更開導了年輕的天子﹗

When the Ming Emperor wants to abolish his first son and have his second soninherit his throne instead, his proposal touched off a huge dissent among his officials. The Emperor asks lord shek, a commoner who supposedly conceals a secret succesion order given to him by the first Ming Emperor, to come to the palace to reveal the order and settle the matter. But Lord Shek has something bigger in mind-to teach His Majesty a valuable lesson on how to be a good emperor.
