Based on a novel by Gu Long, the film tells the tale of Fu Hung Hseuh (Di Lung), a wandering swordsman who becomes embroiled in a battle for supremacy of the martial arts underworld. When his duel with Yen Nan Fe (Law Lit) is interrupted by unknown assassins, the duo runs across a villain named Yu, the man behind the assassins. Yu can only be stopped with a legendary weapon called the "Peacock Dart", so the two men begin a quest to retrieve it before Yu's men beat them to it! A combination of standard swordplay action and over-the-top action spectacle, The Magic Blade is among director Chor Yuen's most entertaining and imaginative motion pictures. Action director Tong Gaai brings ferocious energy to the bloody battles, which are dressed up with cool weaponry like the Peacock Dart, and Fu Hung Hseuh's sword, which spins on an axel allowing the swordsman to cut a deadly swath through his foes!
