YesAsia Editorial Description
Prolific actor/director Wu Ma (A Chinese Ghost Story, Miracles) helms this 1974 Hong Kong production filmed in South Korea. Released in the West as Bonecrushers, Manchu Boxer is notable for its location shooting and fight choreography by then-rising star Sammo Hung (Eastern Condors, SPL). Wu and Hung each perform double duty on Manchu Boxer, working both behind and in front of the camera. Starring alongside them is Anthony Lau, best known for portraying the adventuresome Emperor Chien Lung in several Shaw Brothers films.
Lau plays a young vagabond forced to wander throughout Northern China after killing an official's son in a duel. During his journeys he fatally wounds a highway robber, who asks Lau to look after his destitute family. The bandit's wife and daughter are being victimized by a local warlord who plans to use an upcoming boxing tournament to assert his authority over the Northern provinces. Lau enters the ring to take on the warlord's cronies, but with each man a master of a different martial arts style, the fight will be anything but easy.
