Huang Fei Hong (or Wong Fei Hung) is undoubtedly a familiar name to martial arts film fans, as the life and times of the Foshan folk hero has been dramatized countless times on the big screen. Over the years, Huang Fei Hong has been embodied by legendary actor Kwan Tak Hing, Gordon Liu in Challenge of the Masters, Jackie Chan in Drunken Master, and Jet Li in Once Upon a Time in China, just to name a few. Veteran actor Guk Fung stepped into Huang's hallowed shoes in 1973 with The Master of Kung Fu, forging a new image for the character with his "shadowless kick". This high-flying kung fu flick is helmed by Ho Meng Hua, the renowned director of cult hit The Flying Guillotine and the classic Shaw Brothers Monkey Goes West series.

In search of a skilled bodyguard, a foreigner decides to hold a contest, issuing an open call to all martial artists to come and compete. Huang Fei Hong's relative, worried that Huang (Guk Fung) might join in the contest and ruin his chances, has an underhanded plan for victory, but ends up making a mess of things. In the end, the contest is won by bandit leader Lin Tian Dao (Wang Hap)...
