On the first day of high school, bubbly schoolgirl Haruhi announces to her stunned class that she is interested in meeting aliens, time travelers, and those gifted with special powers. In her quest for the fantastical, she forms the SOS Brigade with sarcastic Kyon (narrator of the series), shy girl Mikuru, quiet bookworm Yuki, and mysterious transfer student Itsuki. The goal of the SOS Brigade is to bring more fun and excitement to the world by making contact with extraordinary beings. Little does Haruhi know, with the exception of voice-of-reason Kyon, the unassuming members of the Brigade are exactly the "people" she's looking for. Even more odd, they are actually there to observe Haruhi, who is the most extraordinary and powerful of them all.

First released as a light novel series in The Sneaker magazine, Tanigawa Nagaru's award-winning The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya has inspired a hugely popular franchise that includes multiple manga and anime series. Combining manic cute energy with an engaging sci-fi mystery, the first The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime series aired in spring 2006 was a big hit with audiences. Starting in April 2009, The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya is being rebroadcast in chronological order with new episodes mixed in with the old.

Vol. 2 comes with episodes Endless Eight 1 and Endless Eight 2.
